Looking for Fun Places to Take My Son

I have been taking my 20 month old son to the childrens play area @ the malls once a week for several months now. It's getting rather old and I was wondering if anyone might know of anything else fun I can do with him for little or no cost. I can't think of anything else other than the Childrens Museum but I work during the day and they close @ 5:00 so I'm looking to find other places I can take him in the evening.

What can I do next?

wow I just poise this question but my son is 17 years old and I'm still trying to figure this out. The bonding is never ending with new development to explore. What I did with him when he was younger was I had a library night (Tues) a movie night (or videos free at library can borrow ) and if you are near the beach like I am I had a sunset dinner/kinda picnic while watching sun go down. twice a week we walked the track so I was able to get a little workout in also hope that helps. I'm trying to find what to do with my 17 year old thou lol

during the summer, you could take him to area splash grounds. you could contact the city for the closest one to you. i take my kids and they love it. they are water babies... it is free so that is a bonus. ~S.

Have you ever went to Lake Manawa Dream Park in Council Bluffs. It is a big wood park in the sand. Once it finally warms up it is a great fun free place to go. 20 months is a little young, but there are many little places to crawl through and climb on. Your 11 year old will enjoy it too.

Watch in the paper or online or simply call the local library as they offer some really fun things in the summer for mostly your older child but sometimes for little ones too. The free splash parks is a really good idea, they are fun, free and you end up meeting some really nice people (many times in the same boat as you!) while the kids play. You might even consider finding someone who has a child similar in age to your youngest one to set up playdates with. You watch her child for 3-4 hours on a Saturday (the kids get to play together) and she does the same thing for you the next Saturday. Kids don't really need a lot of "activities" as much as they need to be able to play, learn and interact with each other. I know it would be a long drive, but there is a really nice play structure at Lake Zorinsky and a great lake to walk around, if your child will sit in a stroller. Take lots of buckets and shovels and your child will dig for hours.

If you ever feel like taking a longer drive, the Children's Museum in Lincoln is absolutely awesome! Even though we live in Omaha, I bought a season pass to the one in Lincoln. It is worth the drive!

Hope this gives you some good ideas.

The only ideas I have are the libraries for "story time", or the Children's Museum, they have "Preschool Pals" on Tues morning where there is a story, craft and a snack with lots of singing and fun stuff. I have been there several times and there are always kids of all ages there...they don't mind. The class is every Tuesday and it's free to members. Also, sometimes I will go to Burger king play place. I know it's kind of dirty and all, but the kids love it and it passes the day. Good luck. You could join a mom's group too!
