Looking for a Good Digital Camera!!

Hi everyone! I'm looking for any suggestions on a good digital camera. If anyone has any recommendations as to which ones are good and which ones aren't, I'd appreciate it. I have already been thru 2 cameras--the first one just stopped working, and the second one kind of works, but when the flash is needed, it just doesn't work out. The pictures come out as if there was no flash even used. So, as you can probably tell, I'd really like to find one that works, and continues working. Any input would be wonderful.
Thanks!!
~J.~

I bought an Olympus FE-190 6.0 megapixel from Best Buy. It takes great pics. Ithas a soundcard and the movie quality is great too. It was only $130.00.

I love my cannon! It's a 5 megapixel and 10x digital zoom. I believe it's model S215, but not sure if that 5 is an s or not because it looks like both. My husband got it for me for about $400. It has this place for grip too that I love because with everyone going on when you have kids, it's super easy to hold on to

I have a Sony PowerShot SD600 Digital Elph. I love it!!! It's 6 megapixels and has a3x zoom and up to a 12x digial zoom ( I think that's how you say it.) It takes great pictures and short videos. We paid about $250 for it over a year ago. I'm sure they have other stuff out now. One of the main things I really like about it is that the screen is big enough to actually see the picture you take. We also have a Canon photo printer and I can hook the camera up to the printer to print pictures.

If you're interested, my husband is the owner of a company which consults and sells name brand computer, camera, and technology equipment for wholesale prices. There is no fee for consultation and he could easily find you EXACTLY what you need and want in a digital camera and you will garantee pay much much less than in the stores. It is all brand new never opened as well. If you're interested call him at ###-###-#### and tell him his wife N. gave you his number. His name is Micah.

What kind of price range do you need to be within? That will really determine the quality of camera you can get. I've been doing a ton of research lately, i'm in the market for an SLR and have decided on Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi. The cost varies quite a bit depending on where you get it and what lens you get. it's roughly around $600-800 (and up). If your looking for a great quality with almost an imediate flash like the SLR's the Canon PowerShot S5 IS is a great choice. Priced around $300-400, much smaller than than the Reble, but not quite pocket sized either, however you'll get excellant picture quality. Do research, see how everyday people rate the products your interested in. Both Amazon and Best Buy usually get a good amount of reviews from people on their websites. If you're looking for more of a pocket sized camera, I've been very happy with my Sony Cybershot DSCN1 8.1MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom. Lots of cool features, including a touch screen, 3" display screen, you can create slide shows with pre-loaded music. It's a lot of fun to play with and it takes great pictures. The reason I want to upgrade is because the flash delay makes me lose good candid shots of my toddler. I want an instant shot. The sony does have a macro mode, where it will take 4 consecutive shots, but you can't use the flash, so unless you are outside or in a well lit room it doesn't do much good. I know the cost has gone done since I bought mine, I think they are around $300 now, I paid $450 a year ago.
sorry this is so long, good luck with your decision!

I suggest checking out the product reviews at www.dpreview.com This is slightly geared towards the photography geek, but it has really excellent information about ALL digital cameras from point-and-shoot to digital SLR cameras.

We have 2 digital cameras - a Cannon Powershot S230 (4 years old now - I think we paid about $350 for it then) - small, portable, takes pretty good pictures.
And an Nikon D50 digital SLR (big, expensive, takes GREAT pictures). We bought the Nikon last winter and paid about $650 for it plus another $700 for a really fabulous zoom lens with vibration reduction. (love LOVE this lens - we rarely use anything else - worth every penny). Now that we have our Nikon we rarely use the Powershot unless portability is our key concern. I just like the pictures from the Nikon better. I admit that I am sort of a photography geek, though.

You can see some sample pics that the Nikon takes at www.picasaweb.com/karentroy (all of the posted pictures are from that camera)

IMHO, there's no reason to go higher resolution than about 6-7 megapixels.

Anyway, check the dpreview website. Very helpful. And decide how much money you want to spend before you look too hard. Good luck!

My camera is not a purse camera!! I love my Nikon D70. Did I mention that I love it?? It takes beautiful photos. It's very easy to use even though the manual is as thick as a phone book. They are expensive so if you're looking for a purse camera, this is not it. If you are looking for a durable (my 3 yr old son loves to take photos with it) camera that takes excellent photos then this is it. I, of course, am always around (very closely) when my son feels the "itch" to take random shots. I like the LCD screen in which I view my photos as I take them. My husband bought this for me in 2004 and paid over $1,000 for it. He bought a bigger zoom lens, microfilter for the lens and a 1GB disk. It all depends on the "extras" you buy with it. I hope this helps.

I must say that I Love Nikon. I have that brand and so does my mother. I love my Camera. I think the one thing that I like so much about it is that it records video much longer then all the others I looked at. I recorded my daughters whole soccer game. I had a sony cyber shot and it just decided to stop working. With my Nikon it is easy to use and has a bigger LCD screen then others out there. I would look online and read some reviews of cameras that are of intrest to you before you buy. Good luck!

I recently bought a new digital camera, and after quite a bit of research ended up buying the newer model of the camera I was upgrading, the Canon PowerShot. It's a great all-around camera for a moderate price. I used to do more artistic photography, and I have a film SLR, but with kids I just want to point-and-shoot and have great-looking photos. (the old camera still works, by the way - I just wanted more megapixels.)

It's a larger camera than some of the digitals out there, and uses AA batteries. I like the size - the smaller cameras seem awkward in my hands - and I don't mind that the batteries are larger and don't last as long because I use rechargeables and it's less expensive (and AAs are sold everywhere). But those are a couple of things that might seem like a disadvantage to other people. I also liked the Elph, which if I remember correctly, is a smaller and slightly more expensive model.

I agree with some of the other posters - read online reviews, at least enough to understand the basics of what you want and what the features are.
