I want to get a new digital camera for Christmas. Any recommendations? I hate my Nikon camera. It takes too long too take the picture and too long in between pictures. Anyone have a camera (for under $200) that they really like? Thanks!

What can I do next?

Sorry that I am a little late with my response. I just bought a Samsung L73 from Sam's Club for $110 with tax. I like it but, there are a lot of icons to memorize what they mean.

I got the Kodak Easyshare Z612 last year & have been quite pleased with it. It takes pretty good pics & has many different settings...The only thing I don't care much for is the somewhat size of it..It's not a slim camera to just slide in my purse, but other than that, it's great & the lithium battery it comes with last very long..

I really hate my camera as well - it's a Cannon Power Shot - it also takes forever between pictures. Also, it doesn't focus well enough. I'm going to get a Minolta DSLR after the hollidays - but they're over $600 plus you need lenses. My mom's camera is great -its a kodak and the pictures are sooo clear.

Jen is right -- all non-SLR digital cameras will have a delay in the flash and picture "snap." If that really bothers you (and it truly was killing my husband that he kept missing all these fast shots of the baby), then it may be worthwhile to shell out the bucks for a SLR digital, which have definitely come down in price, but remain substantially more expensive than the non-SLRs. We got the Nikon D80, 10.1 megapixels, and standard all-purpose lens for about $1200. I believe the Canon Rebel XTi starts somewhere around $750 without a lens. We love the Nikon, and my husband's pictures of the baby have much improved.

I like my Canon PowerShot A630. Inexpensive, good quality. (you can get different prices/megapixels in the A series, starting at I think about $150.) But I think most non-SLR digitals with flash have a delay between shots when taking flash photos. (use the viewfinder instead of display screen to speed things up a little.) This camera is much better than my previous digital, but when I really need great indoors pictures I use my film SLR (no DSLR yet - too expensive!)

dpreview.com has good reviews, and they include a whole timings section where you can see how many seconds different actions took for each camera.

i have 2 casio exilim's the newer version does not have the video feature i love and is not as slim as the 7.2 mega pixel but both were around 199.99. check out circuit city, buydig.com, tigerdirect.com and best buy...they generally run a deal with the camera, case, memo card, and battery during mothers day, holidays, easter, etc.

good luck!

Sony Cyber shot is the Best! I just got the neweversion . Had the old one 3 yrs ago. My son decided to throw it on the ground - thats why we had to buy a new one. It is rated highly on consumer reports also. Go to BestBuy and get the ecteneded warranty just in case yours has an accident. I have learned from that.

Hello! I just got a new digital. I had one, but my daughter dropped it a while ago and the battery compartment wont stay shut, so I needed a new one. I had a Kodak Easy Share. I wanted another one. I went on Thanksgiving to Kmart and got one with a big LCD screen too for 91. And this one does video too and long ones with sound. My other one would only do a min video with no sound at all. I absolutely love this camera. And it has so many nice features and is really easy to use and to figure out. It is the Kodak Easy Share c653 c623. It says both of those model numbers. I love it.

I was looking at the kodak z712 or the newer z812. I think the newer one has image stabilization, which is a nice feature. I decided to spend a little more, and try a Canon.

If you want instant shots, try regular film camera and have it developed to a cd. Or search www.craigslist.com for a used digital slr camera. Your shots will be instant. I borrowed my aunt's olympus e-volt 500 and it was awesome, but expensive.

More megapixels does not always mean better pictures(see website below for more), 6mp is the minimum recommendation now from what I have read. Using flash or red eye will cause the camera to process longer.
Check out this camera review website. The reviews are long, but have good information. You can compare photo quality to other cameras. I open two tabs or windows so I can go back and forth. There is a compare camera section where you can select multiple cameras and have their features in a list. I found it very helpful. There is also a recommendation list by price range.

We love our Sony cybershot 8.1 mega pixels. The more mega pixels you get the faster hte picture will take. We have also found that if you have Red eye on on your camera it will take a long time to take the picture. Watch for sales we got ours with lots of rebates on it.
