Okay local moms i am looking for the best place to buy locally raised, grass feed beef and free range chicken. Any ideas where to start? I live in Geneva but am willing to drive to neighboring suburbs or markets. I haven't been to the Geneva Green Market yet but I have heard it is a good place to start. I am sure there but be a bit of sticker shock with my first purchase but buying locally rather than from HUGE industry has become important to me and I don't know where to start. Any advice would be great. THANKS!
If you live in Geneva you are already at an advantage. Gloria's Gourmet Meats! They are usually present at the Geneva farmers market on Sunday morning, on South Third street by the train station. Gloria and her husband run a farm nearby. Their chickens are amazing. I recommend roasting the whole chicken, then using the remaining bones to make the richest broth you've ever had.
Their smoked bacon is incredible. They have some nice looking steaks, but I've never tried them. They use traditional methods -- no factory, no confinement feeding. It's the real deal.

Black Angus Farms in Maple Park, IL. They have a truck at the Geneva Green Market on Thursdays as well as the Batavia Farmers Market on Saturdays (and the Sycamore one, too, for that matter!). They do grass fed beef that's finished on corn. It is quite good! And their brats are tasty, too!
