The color catchers that SHOUT makes are great. I use them quite frequently with all the new clothes that my kids get! Try 'em!
Does anyone know how to "set" the red dye in children's outfits? I had this very cute onesie for my DS that had red trim and it stained the neck area and left it a pink color.....I have 3 more red trim or red/white outfits I'm afraid to wash....I have heard of soaking the outfits in water and epsom salt but I don't know how much salt to use or how long I need to soak the items...Thanks, Jen
Ok, I'm going to try the vineager soak today and when I go to the store this afternoon I'm getting the color catcher thing as well....if I do both I'm sure I will be safe....
I should have put in before that I wash all clothing items in cold water only....so I know that just "cold water" will not set the color.
Thanks for all the wonderful ideas!!!!

Not sure how to get the red dye out, but next time wash clothes like that in cold water and it won't run...
Jennifer- I hate when this happens. I am not sure of the answer but I have heard about Color Catchers that you put in your laundry to be able to wash all colors at once (darks, whites, and colors) and it won't bleed. I haven't used them yet, but I am sure some mamasource mama has and can give information- It would seem like this might be the answer.
Thanks,
K.
I have heard that if you would like to prevent red - or other brightly dyed, washable clothes from ruining you wash loads , soak new garments in a few cups of undiluted white vinegar for 10 to 15 minutes before their first washing.
Good luck!!

I do a lot of crocheting and love to use white against almost any color, but especially red, black, and purple. I've always used regular table salt when I wash whatever I made to set the colors so they don't bleed into my white. I don't measure it. I just take the salt, pour a fairly decent amount in the water, and add detergent to wash as normal. I never have to add salt for further washes.
The old fashioned way of setting color is to gentle soak it in vineager, rinse and lay flat to dry. =)
you can add salt to the washing machine along with your regular laundry detergent
The color catchers work. I use them with anything that is white that has a different color trim. They are great to use when you mix colors or wash something for the first time.

J.,
I have used the Shout color catchers for all of my son's new clothes and they seem to work. I had some color bleeding from red once when I forgot to use the sheets and over-loaded the washer. Good luck!

I was told to wash in cold water first. Then it should "set". Don't know for sure if it's ever worked. I try not to buy red, just for that reason. Seems I can never stop it from bleeding! Good luck!!
