Kindle or Something Else

My birthday is coming up and I'm considering getting a Kindle from Amazon. I love reading and that's why I thought I might get an e-reader or something. I've only heard of the Kindle but I'm sure there are other things out there. I just discovered that my local library offers e-books that I can check out (great for someone on a strict budget) but they don't work with the kindle since the kindle books are available exclusively on amazon.com. I'd love to hear from you what you think about the Kindle - Pro's and Con's or what you think of the other e-readers out there. Thanks for all your input. You guys are awesome.

I have a Kindle and love, love, love it! I've also heard good things about the Nook. Recently I went to Maine (from Texas), so I was travelling all day long. The Kindle was amazing. It was so nice to have several books to read without having to carry heavy books. Wonderful!

I do not own a Kindle but my sister-in-law does. I LOVE it!!! It was so easy to read off of and she was downloading kid books, the classics, new releases.

The Kindle is for books only, if you want something that does more then look at an iPad. If you only want it for books then go with with Kindle.

I have the NOOK color and love it. You can download the books from anywhere, it doesn't have to be from B&N. It is nice because you can go online with it. Soon they are going to add apps and a flash player at no extra charge.

I bought a Kindle at Christmas and LOVE it! I'm a paper kind of gal and really resisted getting one, but felt it was time. I'm doing SO much more reading now that I have one. For me, the big plus is being able to adjust the font size. No more squinting at tiny text. I can make it big so it's easy to read at night when my vision is at its worst. It's also really portable so I can pop it into my purse to read while the kids are at gym practice.

I have little patience for figuring out tech gadgets and even I could get the thing up and running and use it right away. The battery life is really, really good, too. I've been reading a few nights a week since Christmas and it only last week needed the battery recharged.

I thought I wanted a kindle, but when I realized I needed a new phone, I got an Android (the Evo with Sprint, it's awesome!!!) and you can read via the Kindle reader, the Borders reader and the Amazon reader! Of course you need to download the books, but I love it (plus, it's one less thing I have to remember to grab on the way to the park).

We have the Nook and love it. I can honestly say, I have no idea if we can check books out from the library or not. I am sure that information would not be hard to find.

Good luck to you.

LOVE my kindle. A little known thing is Amazon has a free section for books for kindle. Granted they are mostly the classics but you can find newer books for free as well if you keep and eye on either the kindle page on facebook or randomly check the Amazon site.
My kids are constantly taking my kindle because they love it as well. I can't say enough about it. I do still buy certain regular books.

I got the Kindle for Christmas and LOVE it! I debated between the Nook and Kindle and for me the Kindle just seemed like a better buy. Amazon has been great and the customer service is awesome.

I have the Nook and love it - you can check books out from the library and that is the main reason I chose it over the Kindle. I didn't get the Nook color because I like to read outside and the color is more like a computer screen and harder to see outdoors. There are also lots of free and very inexpensive books available. I don't know if Amazon does this but Barnes & Noble has free sample downloads so you can read a chapter or two of a book and help you decide if you want to buy it. Very cool!

I have a Kindle app on my android phone, and I LOVE it. I'm sure I "turn pages" more often than I would with a full size Kindle, but then I don't have yet one more thing to haul around.

I had a kindle and didn't care for it. I never picked it up and the only place was Amazon. I traded it for a pandigital and love it. Lot like a nook color. It gets online and you can check email and surf but also read and download books and this one works with the library system as does the nook. Upside with Kindle it works like a cell phone and downloads anywhere. Pandigital and I think Nook have to have a WiFi system in order to hook up and download or surf. The kindle screen looks like a book which is cool and easy on the eyes but you have to buy a light to read at night or have the lights on. There is no backlit screen. On the pandigital and nook it is like a computer screen and backlit. But also uses battery faster. Anyway I love my pandigital. So much more to do than just read books.

Love my Kindle that I got for Christmas. One huge pro: only takes one hand & that's awesome when holding or feeding a baby!
