I'm leaning towards the Nook Color, I was going to get one for Christmas but I wanted to do more research so my b day is next month and that is what I'm getting. I would go to Best Buy and Barnes and Noble and just play with them.
If any of you ladies out there have one of these, which is better, and why. I want one, but am unsure of which one to go with.
Thanks
I got the NOOK, and love it so far. Going to a class at barnes n noble to learn more about my NEW toy...Thanks for all the coments.

A Kindle!! I got one for Christmas and LOVE it. I have played with a Nook Color, but for reading books, a Kindle is much better. The Nook's backlight makes it similar to reading on a computer, which I don't prefer. It also has some bells and whistles that I don't consider necessary for an ebook reader- like a browser. It's very iPad'ish.
The Kindle has no backlight, and the print is most similar to reading a book. One battery charge lasts a month. They are affordable, light, and durable (I've already dropped it). They have 22,000 titles in the public domain that you can download for free, such as popular classics. Did I mention I love my Kindle? lol
I got the Nook for Christmas. I didn't want the color because it is a backlit screen (i.e., a computer/smart phone screen) and that makes my eyes really tired really fast. Did Nook over Amazon because the Best Buy guys said it is newer (and better) technology. Also, my public library has more offerings for borrowing Nook format ebooks. As for needing lessons - I thought it was really intuitive and they probably won't be needed. Took a little to figure out how to load it up w/free stuff (borrowed, really) from the library but otherwise I thought there was almost no learning curve.
I just bought the nook and so far am very happy with it. I didn't get the color because I don't want to sit and read off a computer screen. I didn't get the kindle because I've heard then you are stuck only using amazon. I like the idea of free lessons at barnes and noble. I like the idea that I can go to the store w/ any questions. I can also go there and read for an hour a day any book I want. I can always buy it if I want to, but being able to read and get a taste of any book for free is fantastic.
I got the Nook Color for Christmas and I love it. It's awesome. However, I have to charge it quite a bit.
Not sure what is the best, but my husband wanted the nook color for xmas because he could read magazines with it and see the pics in color.
He likes it a lot so far.
Hi!
I have had my Kindle for almost 2 years and I love it. It is very easy to read and to use. I have to agree with all the comments posted by D.P.
LOVE my kindle!
I got a kindle for Christmas. I love it! The screen looks like paper. When I first opened it, I thought it had a sticky paper over the top of it. I couldn't believe it was actually the screen. Previously, I had the free kindle app on my iPhone, which is backlit. I didn't mind it too much, but I much prefer the real kindle that isn't backlit. Nook also has a free iPhone app. So, if you have an iPhone, you can play around with the apps to see if you like one more than the other. I think you would probably be happy with either. How spoiled are we? LOL I downloaded about 30 free books right away. Now, I'm struggling to decide which to read first! Fun, fun!
Hi :) I got the Nook for Christmas and I love it. However, I had the chance to try out a friend's Nook Color and it was awesome; the full touch screen is MUCH easier to use and it has lots of extras! If you can afford the extra $100 for the color, I would absolutely go with that!!
We checked out Consumer Reports for these, and the nook and kindle got very similar ratings. I went with the nook - if you need help with it, many Barnes & Noble stores offer nook classes or assistance, plus you can sometimes download free "goodies" while you are in the store - like coupons for the cafe, or free magazine articles, even free books from time-to-time.
My understanding of the nook color, is that it has a different kind of screen than the kindle or nook. The kindle and nook both have screens that look remarkably like paper - which means that you need a booklight to use them at night, but broad daylight isn't a problem. (I took the nook with me when my daughter had her swim lessons - not a problem, at all!) The nook color uses a backlit screen. No booklight is required, but I've heard that some folks get headaches using them at night. They also drain an enormous amount of power - you'll be charging it a lot. On the flip side, you'll be able to download children's picture books, and might get a tiny bit more out of the web browser feature. However, I don't know that there are very many children's books in e-format yet (though I would assume that bn.com will be adding them soon, since this is one of the selling points to the nook - though I personally don't let the kids play with my nook, anyway - loading picture books on it seems like a recipe for trouble, IMHO), and the nook doesn't have a very fast internet connection speed, anyway. I don't know about the nook color's web browser feature - it might have better software.
I have a new Nook Color that I'm really enjoying. I started reading a few books on my iPhone (tiny, I know!) and got used to reading with the backlight at night (white print on a black background in a dark room), so when I tried the original Nook, it was a real letdown when I realized you needed a booklight of some sort. The Nook Color solved that problem, and I like its versatility for a quick surf of the web in color. Another thing I didn't care for with the e-ink readers was that every time you turn a page, you get a screen flash and a slight delay. Page turning on the Nook Color is instantaneous and easy with a quick touch of the screen. Lower battery life is a downside, but it hasn't been a big deal for me. I have a charger by my bed and will plug in if needed. I also love that Nook supports Adobe Digital books (with a little transfer work on the computer) so I can download library books from the Dallas library. Kindle and iPads aren't compatible with Adobe, so that's a big plus in the Nook's favor for me.
i received an amazon kindle for christmas. its fairly nice but i would get a sony, tobo or velocity. the first 2 are compabilty for free download at your local library.
nook you can only purchase ebooks from barnes/noble. kindle you can only purchase ebooks from amazon. it can add up. i checked out 2 counties library near me and they have a huge selections of books to download for free.
Hubby has a Kindle, and it's pretty cool....nephew just got the Nook and it's also pretty cool...if I had to be completely honest I think I like the real buttons on the Kindle better than the touch screen on the Nook, but the touch screen does work really well...
I think it comes down to personal preference..are you an Amazon person? We get gift cards to Barnes & Noble ever year from the in-laws, so if I had to choose, I would go with the Nook!
Happy Reading...there is nothing worse than finishing a good book!
I have a Nook, upsides are the obvious...easy to carry around, store a whole library on it, the Nook is very easy to navigate, mark pages, look up words, order new books. I had Nook color envy until I read about the battery usage..and I cannot put into words how frustrating it is to get to the final few pages of a book and your ereader run out of power. I tend to snuggle up and finish a book in a weekend, therefore using quite a bit of power in one extended reading session. I've twice had to finish a book standing next to the charger :( Otherwise, the nook is great...I'm just not completely sold on the fact that ereaders are better than the old standard..the BOOK!
