My kindlefire often has screen freezes and the apps are always crashing and I have to force close them. I have talked to amazon about the problem and they told me when it happens to press and hold the on/off button in but the thing really annoys me because I have to do that a lot. My brothers kindlefire one day ran out of charge and stopped working completetly! The battery was defective so he lost everything he had on that kindle! I had to erase all my things because of the glitches blond it too so does anyone know what maybe causing the problem or if I can fix it for good?

So What Happened?

Thanks! I also forgot to say that I dropped it one to many times and have "colorful" lines across my kindle. The app that seems to force close the most is EpicFail don't get that app! I removed it and its better now :) The lines on my kindle are spaced apart but their colors are yellow red x2 and blue the screens not cracked at all but you cant really notice the lines either. Now I have a case! Anyways, thanks so much it was starting to make other apps force close too and now none of them do!

It should not be freezing that often. I had a problem with one of my apps that would result in having to shut down and restart, but all the rest of the apps worked fine. Keep a record for a week of which apps and how many times you have to shut down. Then get on the chat line with Amazon and let them know what you have tracked. It sounds excessive and if you may have a bum unit. My first Kindle Fire had a bad charging port. The cord would not stay in place and then it started getting worse such that many times it wouldn't charge or I would have to try plugging it in 6+ times before the charging light would come on. They replaced it free of charge and my new one has a much better charging port.

I suggest you keep a list of what you're doing when the Kindle freezes so that you can try to figure out what causes it. I have a Nook and found that when someone tries to play a game that requires a Wifi connection when there is no WiFI the screen freezes. I shut down the Kindle and reboot it to fix it, just as Amazon told you to do.

The directions with the Kindle says to charge it before it runs out of power because if you don't it shortens the life of the battery. So does shutting it completely down. So, I recommend that you find out what is causing it to freeze.

Once you've determined what is happening when it freezes I'd call Amazon and see if they can help you stop it from happening if knowing that doesn't help you know what to do.

I do have a suggestion regarding your data loss. Back it up to your Cloud drive frequently, and also the data that is say, epubs and pictures, save to a USB storage drive like a Seagate FreeAgent or Toshiba USB.
You can get a terabyte and a half of space for rather inexpensive(compared to when I acquired my first ones). Yes, I have more than one Terabyte drive, and they are full. I'm an artist, and backing up my art and programs takes up a lot of space. I have a dedicated one for just pictures, music and e-books.

He should not have lost data if he backed up regularly. Kindle Cloud auto sync back-ups every time you purchase something wirelessly. When I first got mine, nothing moved, so they had to step by step me through soft reset and sync data, and even emailed me the steps. I manually sync my Kindle morning and night, and USB backup whenever I purchase things for it.

I learned this the hard way with my first e-reader, and have since become a save monkey.

Quick thought, have you dropped it? That screen is very delicate, so if jarred, the connectors might have messed up and caused these. I am awaiting my hard case, so I currently don't move it, nor take it anywhere other than my book nook.

If it is insured, perhaps asking Amazon to repair/replace it?

Hope this helps a bit.

Maybe you just got a glitchy kindle. I'd ask to exchange it, especially if it's new or even just a few months old.
