HELL NO! Maybe if you made a drinking game where you did a shot every time some one had sex, got slapped, got killed or talked to themselves to the camera...then we could talk about it.
There was a question that other day that people said she must be writing a soap opera....got me to thinking....
Do you watch soaps and if so, which ones?
I was raised on CBS soaps and watched Young and the Restless since it debuted in 1972...I was home sick from school that day. When I lived in Europe, Y&R was not on AFN and at the time my French and German were not good enough to watch them, although it did help me learn...
In high school, I switched to General Hospital (Rick Springfield!!!) and that quickly waned...
So - what soaps do you like to watch?
YAY!! I'm not the only one!!!
I used to LOVE Desperate Housewives...didn't watch it all last season and now this is the final season....

My mom watched OLTL and Days. It was a treat to stay home sick and get to watch soaps. My mom would always get irritated because I would ask too many questions. It's hard when you only catch it here and there. But, I grew up with Sami, Austin, and Carrie. They went to prom when I did. They had babies when I did. I watch an episode every once in a while just to catch up with the family. :)
I watch the Bold and the Beautiful - if I remember.
I TiVO the Young and the Restless....I think I have a week's worth to watch!!! Tomorrow is my day off - I think I will do that!!!
Occassionally my husband and I watch a novella (the Mexican soaps). Oh my. With a glass of wine and a willing to translate husband, we have laughed ourselves silly more than once over the plots (or lack thereof) and the histrionics. I guess the storyline and he tells me just how far off I am. American soaps are just too fluffy for me but I have no female relatives who watched while growing up so that probably stunted me. :)
I used to run from my bus in high school to see General Hospital. I haven't watched any of them for about ten years now.
My guilty addiction is court TV. I love Judge Judy. :)
Ya know there was a period of time I just didn't have time to watch them. When I tried to go back all the characters had changed shows or the kids had gone to the magical boarding schools that make them age 20 years in a month. Too confusing to re learn.
My older brother, sister & I started watching Days of Our Lives when we were in our early teen years. What hooked us? Dr. Marlena Evans was posessed! Hello?!
I still watch it on occassion, about 17 years later. It is just one of those things. Not very great tv, but a time passer.
I do... But not in the "traditional" sense. The shop full of men that I work in... I call it, "As the Rotor Turns". *giggles*
I'm a sometimes watcher of Days of our Lives......lately it's been a lame story line, but I watch it depending on what's going on.
I didn't even know Soap Operas were still on TV!
nope don't watch them. never have.
I LOVE The Young and the Restless, but I do not get to watch it often. If we had a DVR I would record it every day, but we don't so I don't.
Are there any left? I was raised on As the World Turns. Literally, my mom watched it while breastfeeding me! I watched it until it went off the air. I watched Y and R also when nursing my first son.
What do moms who breastfeed watch these days? I miss soaps!
I don't personally watch them but I remember one time when I was in college at Auburn University I went into a particular building that was considered a hang out for students and staff inbetween classes. There was snack machines and tv's with sitting areas. On one of the tv's was All My Children and a group of ladies who were on the cleaning staff were all gathered together to watch it. Truly, this was one of the funniest things I have ever witnessed in my life. These ladies yelled at the tv and the characters and had indepth coversations among themselves (quite loudly) concerning the characters and what they were doing, had done or were going to do. I remember being so entertained by these ladies and how they took the "story" so seriously. When the program was over, they all took their lunch bags and headed back to work. I can only imagine the fun these ladies had with each other over the years watching All My Children during their lunches :-)
No i think the acting is awful, i just cant get into them. I dont make fun of people who do though, my mom was a young and the restless fan and i thought she was the coolest chick alive.
I watch none. When I worked, in the breakroom there was a soap on the TV that was always on. I had never been interested in soaps until after several weeks I got hooked into the story. :-) Then I quit work a few months later and didn't keep watching at home...I can't even remember which one it was. But I see why people like them! It was quite entertaining!
I stated watching Young and the Restless and Days of our lives but then life just got too busy and I truly just don't have the time to watch an hour show 5 days a week! And I think they're pretty ridiculous!
Used to be a GH fan...but not anymor. I'm addicted to Cupcake Wars, and Cake Boss!
I watch Y & R, and B & B, If I miss a day I go crazy!! Yea, there is a lot of bad acting, but there are a lot of good looking guys too (Billy Miller :-)))))
i do not, but my nanny and granny wouldn't miss their "peices " for nothing!!
Nah, they're not for me. I guess I never really understood what was so appealing about them.
I haven't watched since As The World Turns went off the air. For some reason, I loved that one. But I must admit that I don't miss it at all. Plus, I find that I just don't have the time to watch TV during the day - and at night there's enough on to keep me entertained without watching DVR'd episodes of daytime TV...
I watch space operas. I'd take the Borg vs the Federation over his mother's brother's sister's attorney vs their long lost latin pool boy lover any day.
I used to watch East Enders. What I love about it is that the characters are much more down to earth than the characters on American soap operas.
Unfortunately PBS in our area no longer carries it. BBC Charges an arm and a leg to air it, and they have seen too a big drop in donations due to the downturn in the economy to support having it. sigh...
I like Days but I haven't had time to watch it in over a year! :(
TV? What's that? lol! I do not really watch tv very much. Really the only show I watch is glee. I'm too busy during the day and at night is when I'm editing. Glee nights are my night off, lol!
Ah, yes, the brain rot tv... I love General Hospital! It's crazy to me that my grandma used to watch, my mom used to watch, and now I watch! As a kid, mom would let me watch with her whenever we were home sick or on vacation. Then I didn't watch for many, many years. Until I was in college and had a roommate who was addicted (she actually planned her class schedule so that she would be in the dorm to watch it everyday)--we had the same class right after, so we started a habit of watching it together! The 2 months I was on maternity leave, I caught up on all the storylines and have been recording (DVR) ever since. Sometimes I'll get a few weeks-months behind (my DVR will only keep 20 episodes recorded), but watching 2-3 episodes will get you all caught up!
These days, GH is my late night "me time" when I get to veg on the couch after baby & daddy have gone to bed! :)
Before I started watching soap operas, I read romance novels. My SIL used to watch AMC, and I got hooked on it one time I visited her. Then it had a plot tie-in with One Life to Live, so I started watching it too. I record them and just scan through quickly. I don't really miss AMC now that it's gone.
My husband always makes fun of how bad the acting is and can't stand to watch it with me. However, he likes desperate housewives, and I don't.
Guilty here! I've watched Days on and off for decades. Just in case you're an old Days fan, Marlena, John, Jack, Jennifer, Austin and Kerry are all back. Not sure that's a good thing, but it's certainly nostalgic. When I watch I have to do something else, like Mamasource, because otherwise my mind would be mush.
Nope...NEVER have....and it's looking unlikely that I ever will.
And I have been a SAHM for over 15 years....where do you all find the time or interest in such stories?
