IUD Trouble

Has anyone had trouble with her IUD? I can't find the strings and neither could the doctor at the clinic. He was going to order an ultrasound and such, but this meant I would have to go to different doctors and blah, blah, blah. I was trying to save money by going to a clinic, but now I am trying to get into my OB GYN. I have limited health insurance, so I am trying to get this taken care of for as cheap as I can. Anyway, insurance and costs aside, I want to know where my IUD is!!! The clinic doctor thinks it is up in my uterus and I might need a DNC to get it out. It will be over three weeks before I can get into my OB GYN, so I am just having to wait. I hate it. I just want to know what is going on with my body.

What can I do next?

This may be scary to hear but, I had an IUD. I got pregnant with it and we could not find the string to pull it out. The doctor did an ultrasound and seen what he thought was the IUD. After I give birth he looked and still could not get it. When we went to tie my tubes he still could not get it so, he removed the uterus. In doing so there still was no IUD, he has no idea where it went and what we thought was the IUD on the ultrasound throughout the whole pregnancy was just a fossil imprint. To this day we still have no idea if it fell out or if it is inside my body some where.

All i have to say is be careful. I just found out today that my cousin is pregnant again for the 4th time and her IUD came loose. She was suppose to wait a year before she tried to get pregnant and her little boy is only 5 months old. So make sure you use some other form of b.c. Good Luck!

I had mine put in almost 3 weeks ago and have been bleeding ever since. My doctor said there would be spotting but she didn't say anything about bleeding non stop. The nurse said that if I'm soaking a pad, cramping and clotting that I need to go to the ER (office is closed right now). I'm not soaking a pad, anymore, and just having mild cramps and clotting. I'm not sure what to do?????

Once you get that IUD out I would reccommend another form of birth control. That is not the most effective or the most safe method. I did a research paper on IUD that had to be recalled because it caused pelvic inflammatory disease. Discuss with your doctor more safer methods.

They told me that it could possibly come out while I was urinating... so maybe that is what happened?

All who use IUD's be careful. My brothers wife became pregnant with her IUD and they had to remove the IUD while she was pregnant which could have been very harmful to the baby. I just don't think they are a very reliable source of birthcontrol and if you have to worry about it getting lost, that's scary in itself. You may not be able to locate your string, but I bet it is inside somewhere and can easily be removed. Get it removed and find another form of birth control.

I also have the Mirena and I can not sometimes feel those so called strings however I see a specialist due to all my problems and he said that doesn't mean its lost. Have you had your husband check for you. Its probally there. I have had mine almost 2 years and other than no periods I love mine. Hang in there and keep checking. I think the strings are probally there, don't freak out. They can shift and are easy to fix. Good luck girl!

I have an IUD and I have never had problems with it. I have the new Mirena. I really don't have many options to go with because of medicine I am on for bi-polarism. If your strings are not hanging down, it has probably shifted. My OB says it is an easy fix but sometimes they do need to get an ultrasound just so they know where to go in. Do you have any low cost places to go to? I know of several in the KC Metro but you don't live here, at least the profile says you don't.

I had the Mirena IUD for 4 years. After the first year, the strings disappeared. My OB performed an ultrasound just to make sure that the IUD was still in place, which it was, and it stayed there for another 3 years. When I had it removed (because we wanted another child) I did end up having to have some general anesthesia when it was removed but it wasn't a big deal. I did not have a D&C.

Definately see your OB to make sure that it is still in place, but more than likely you have nothing to worry about.

Hey L.,
Sorry about the problem that you are having. I don't know much about IUDs but if you have very limited insurance, I do know a health plan that would help you to save up to 50% on your medical services and up to 80% on your dental. That way it won't be so costly when you go in to the see the doctor. The plan is only $49.95 per month. You can check out my website for more information www.MyBenefitsPlus.com/F.. Hope this helps. Good luck!

I had an IUD for about 6 months. The last 3 months, I spotted constantly.
Just be really careful, because I understand there is risk of perforating the uterus. I would ask and make sure there isn't a risk of it embedding in your uterus for being in there for so long. You don't want to end up spending even more money because of the complications of having it misplaced for so long.

Hello
I have only had my IUD in for a year in a half. I have had nothing but problems with it. The only thing I can thing of is the strings came off the IUD. The IUD can not go up any more. I have had pain with mine, can't say I've lost the strings. I whould go get it removed as soon as you can. There is also a chance that it could of shifted. I just found out the stuff they don't tell you. If an IUD is left in to long tissue can grow around it, and when pulled out there a chance you could bleed really bad. The others problems is when removed if you have an infection it could go into your blood stream. If you have a lot of infections there's a chance that the IUD could make it to where you wouldn't be able to have kids again. I am on my way to the Hospital in a few hours to get my IUD removed. Well I hope I was some help! Good luck and God Bless.
