IUD Problem

Ok I have a Mirena IUD. So far I have loved it. Now that my body has gotten used to it I only lightly spot once a month if I spot at all & that is great. But my husband can feel the string & it definitely gets in the way. I have gone to my OBGYN twice now to have it trimmed. The last time he could not trim it anymore because he was afraid that if it got any shorter he would not be able to grab it to take it out when I am ready. So all he could do is put something on it (some kind of acid something, I forget what he called it) to dull the end of it so that it was not so pointed. BUT...it is still getting in the way. My Doc said that he has not heard of anyone else having this problem. I don't know what to do. He said that he would talk to the rep to see if they would put another one in but I am worried I am going to have the same problem. Has anyone else had this problem & is there anyone that can give me any advice. I really like the Mirena I would hate to have it taken out. Any suggestions would be great!!

What can I do next?

The string is supposed to soften over time, and once in a while for the first few months my husband said he could feel it too. I've had mine a year and I guess now its ok, he hasn't said anything in a while about it.

I hope your doc can speak to the rep and get some answers for you...

I have a copper IUD and we have never had an issue with it. Maybe you need to go to a different brand. My strings aren't real short either. Best to you!

My dr told me that the strings soften with time and told us to be patient.

I had the Mirena for about 8 months. I had to have it trimmed down once but my husband could always feel it still. I actually had a very bad experience with Mirena. I never stopped bleeding the entire time I had it. My husband ended up getting a vasectomy instead...and I had another baby a year later. Ha! The pill always worked best for me. Good luck!

I have had my IUD in for over a year now, and I really like it, I left my strings kind of long to start and never had them trimmed, I noticed that they seem to curve upward not point down, my husband hasn't really felt them much I wonder if being shorter causes them to stick out more (stand up). I don't know if that makes sense. I understand your not wanting to have it taken out, being it is so easy and such a VERY low dose of hormone. I hope that this or something the doctor finds will help!

Good luck
