I need help. I'm 13 weeks pregnant and my skin is so itchy and dry, I don't know what to do. I talked to my doctor about it, and he suggested putting baby oil on after I shower then waiting a few minutes and pat dry. Then use lotion with aloe or shea butter in it. I use a shea butter soap, use the baby oil, and then use aloe lotion. It helps for a few hours, but I would like something that provides more of an all day relief. I didn't have this with my first. When I was pregnant with my first, my husband went and got me a wonderful bath set to help me relax. The first thing I saw when reading the label, was don't use when pregnant. (the sales people knew I was pregnant and sold it to him anyway). Is there a product out there that will provide more relief? Oh, I also drink tons of water a day so my skin is pretty hydrated.

What can I do next?

Calendula Cream!! Weleda sells some. It's technically for babies, but I used it for half of my pregnancy. It was amazing for my dry, itchy skin. (It's just lotion, not diaper cream.) I also used the oil. A little bit goes a long way, it's well worth the money!! You can use it on your baby when he/she gets here. (I bought mine at Sprouts) Here are the links:

Hi V.. Congrats on being pregnant. Some thoughts:
1. Try to use cetaphil cleanser (non fragranced, non soap)
2. Try to use non fragranced detergents, fabric softeners etc.....
3. cotton clothes
4. aquaphor is a good emollient....
5. cotton sheets....

Consider that it might be the Chlorine in the water supply that is adding to your discomfort... If you ever swam, then you know that awful itch that can come after a swim in chlorinated water. That said, do what I did... I changed out shower nozzle and we added a filter that takes out the Chlorine... Since doing this a couple of years ago, boy oh boy my skin feels much better... (esp my back) additionally, try and not make the water too hot.. that will definitely add to the itch.......... Also, have your tried PURE coconut oil ? you can get it at a health food store.. get the PUREST kind.. no additives.. the problem with other lotions is that they often don't allow your skin to breath because they have things like wax in them.. Coconut is great in that it soothes while at the same time helps to gently exfoliate the skin... give both a try.. I find them helpful...

With my third pregnancy I had the itchies so bad and scratching just didn't help. Turned out it wasn't dry skin, just hormones. Ugh. It did go away though!
