You can actually donate it to help with the Gulf oil spill! I haven't done this yet, but here's one page about it:
They will take any length of hair, plus fur, fleece, feathers and nylons!
Hi there! My toddler daughter grows beautiful brunette hair and it's getting long, I haven't cut it in a year. She sometimes puts her hair in her mouth to suck on it and that wasn't a problem, but now this week every day she has taken to "twirling" a mass of hair in the back causing a huge snarl that takes 15 minutes to comb out each day. I usually put the front section of her hair in a ponytail or two to keep it out of her eyes. Because of the twirling and snarling I was thinking of cutting her hair very short (a chin-length bob, like she had when she was younger) but I had hoped to wait until her hair was long enough for Locks of Love which needs 10 inches. Well, I realize that could take almost another year, and Pantene Beautiful Lengths wants 8 inches. That's still more hair than she has, I could make a pair of ponytails about 6 inches right now. It seems a shame to cut off that beautiful hair and not have something good come of it (besides a cute hairstyle)... I'd do the cutting myself, but do any of you know of a worthy cause that could definitely use 6 inches of fine, straight, healthy brunette child's hair? I look forward to your ideas, many thanks. *Peace*! :)
Thanks to everyone who wrote me! This morning my daughter had such a snag in her hair that after trying to untangle it for an hour I gave up and cut the snag out, then I had to cut the rest. Turns out the ponytail I have is only 5 inches, and we didn't get a chance to shampoo her hair first so the clippings aren't clean. So I have the snag (it's a sculpture that looks like a little seahorse believe it or not) and a 5-inch ponytail, and my daughter has a very short cheek-length bob with short bangs. Again, thanks everyone. If MatterOfTrust will take such a small amount of hair I may send it in, if not, maybe the little ponytail and the snag will be our souvenirs. *Peace*!

I don't know of any, but if you go to a local hair salon (Even if they don't cut her hair) and ask if they know of any charities they will tell you. Hair salons know a lot of charities.
Yes ..my niece already gave her hair once between age 3 1/2 yrs and 4 yrs old. Her hair grows very fast. Its a noble cause. I believe its important to teach our kids to think of others..what a great way.
Its called "Locks Of Love" the hair is given to cancer patients that have lost their hair.
I don't know of anyone who will take 6 inches (yikes). I donate to Locks of Love about every 3 years and they have come down from 12 inches to 10 inches over the years. The only thing would be if a hair supply store, I mean the big hair supply & wig store could use the pieces for filler clips.
Locks of love WILL take it. They can't use it to make a wig, but they can sell it and use the money from that towards the production of wigs!
you can donate your hair clippings of any size (and your animals hair) to where the oil rig exploded. it has shown to be the best at absorbing the oil. they are stuffing it into nylons and absorbing the oil. I just cut off my hair and my kids hair and i am planning on doing the dogs this weekend too! my daughter tells everyone we are saving it for the sea lions. lol.
If you want to donate it to some place that will make a wig, 6" is too short to work with. Locks of Love makes wigs for people who have permanently lost the ability to grow hair. Cancer patients who will re-grow hair once their treatments are finished are not eligible for their services.
Braiding her hair might keep it neat and tidy. A simple French braid or a Dutch braid are easy.
