Sometimes my upper lip sweats after a hot shower. Is it possible that you put on the lotion after bathing and that is not the lotion, but the shower?
Ok, my husband and I have observed recently that we both develop sweaty upper lips when we put lotion on our hands. I've noticed it for a long time but never said anything because I thought surely the two things were not related. I mean, how could they be? But my husband brought it up one day, frustrated with the creams he has to use to treat his eczema, and I was shocked to know I wasn't the only person who was crazy. I HATE using lotion because of that side effect, but now my husband has validated my concerns! Interesting!
I googled it but didn't find any correlation mentioned.
I've tried applying lotion at different times of the day, I've tried deliberately not touching my face at all, I've tried many different kinds of lotions & creams, and I get the same side effect every time, significant upper lip sweating. After applying lotion if I absolutely have to, I have to have a small rag to wipe the sweat off. It's very annoying (and in public, embarrassing).
Has anybody experienced or heard of this???? It makes no sense to me!
Uh, sorry I have no idea why this posted twice. Weird.
HAHA Amanda! I noticed that too! Odd, huh??

My guess is that you are covering up some sweat glands on your hands by coating them with the lotion and it's coming out at the next weakest point which is your upper lip for some odd reason.
Definitely a weird phenomenon.
Amanda G your belly button poking conundrum totally made me laugh and
I've also wondered that same thing.
As for the lotion im not an avid lotion user so I've never noticed sweaty lip syndrome
I haven't experienced any upper lip sweat after applying hand lotion, but your story reminded me of some old home remedies.
Apparently, in winter, mom's would grease their kids legs with crisco or vaseline, to protect against winter skin, but also to help to keep them warmer. Maybe you are getting overall warmer because of the lotion?
Consider using a moisturizing soap, increasing your water intake, or even using olive oil and a loofah in the shower (although your bath is going to need a right good scrub afterwards).
Good luck to you and yours,

i agree with the other ladies. in the summertime i notice that putting hand lotion on makes me HOTTER, and as addicted as i am to lotion, i hate putting it on after a hot shower, for the same reason. i think it's because it raises your temperature just a bit, maybe. that's my theory! i apply lotion probably 5-10 times per day and don't notice this. but i am naturally very warm and almost always have a fan on me (especially at work, which is where i use all the lotion - from washing my hands - with cold water - so many times).
Is this after a shower, maybe?
I think when you come out of a shower, everyone sweats a bit...maybe you're just noticing it when you're applying lotion?
Otherwise--no clue!
(But I'll be testing this to see if it happens with me, too! LOL)
I have had that happen but only if I am sweating at the time. Doesn't have to be a lot of sweat but when you put lotion on the sweat beads up so it is more noticeable.
um maybe because it's summer and you live in texas and it's covering up sweat glands? I dunno it's never happened to me.
Moisten your body before applying the lotion - it could be that the lotion is sitting on your skin blocking pores and that is where the sweat is exiting. I only lotion my skin when I can wet if first - your skin soaks it in better. So afer shower/washing hands etc.
