My husband is turning 40th this summer. He loves to party and his birthday. I was thinking to celebrate his birthday big this year. Any suggestions???to have something special, I'll prefer not to do it at home, because I'm not a great party planner, but I don't want to spend to much either, but I want to make something nice for him. I always get him nice presents, but this year instead of going for the traditional day, I want to do something different, having in consideration how much he loves to party...plus he loves surprises

What can I do next?

My friends booked a floor of a pub/bar/club they liked to go to - there was a band, a bar and lots of dancing. It cost a fortune, but was fun.

You could do same thing much more cheaply by just having all your friends/family gather at a venue where they a band is playing that he would enjoy.

Start the night off at a nice restaurant with closest friends/family for a nice meal and celebration.

i'm not sure of your limitations or otherwise. But my DH took me to Vegas for my 40th and it was epic. Just us two. DS was with his auntie. Let yours, and his. hair down and go have an experience for just you two. What happens in..................stays in.................

Happy father's day to all. :-) S

Book a small hall at a hotel for a big party with all of his friends. That way
people can drink and spend the night. Play music from your iPhone play list
and attach to a speaker. Serve tons of heavy appetizers & bread.
Book a room at a restaurant in town & provide dinner and drinks for your guests
The only way to do it cheap is to do it at home: you can make great food, buckets of beer on ice, play music, I would not do hard alcohol...just beer & wine
Decorate a little with a guy theme.
Borrow chairs from people for all the extra seating. Borrow tables, too. Check
with your neighbors even...if you're friendly with them. Or ask each guest to
bring 2 folding chairs w/them.

An 80s or 90s cover band - get some friends together and schedule a car/taxi/uber so no one has to drive and go out and dance and have drinks with friends.

"Kidnap" him and take him to see a favorite band. Find a club nearby to go dancing and drinking afterward. If you can go out of town for a night and stay at a hotel, all the better ;)

A nice dinner somewhere, followed by a comedy club with drinks? Karaoke? Maybe have another couple or two meet you and increase the surprise as well as have some friends to laugh with? Same for dancing as suggested below. Figure out a safe way to get home - maybe call Lyft or Uber so you can drink and not drive?

Make a list of 40 things you love about him or 40 memories. You can make a hardcover book of sayings, memories, photos, anything you want through services like Shutterfly. Have it delivered to a friend's house so he doesn't see it - if you and he share a bank account or credit card, then ask a friend to pay for it so he doesn't see the bill, and just pay her/him in cash.

Don't be afraid to cut back on the material gifs in order to pay for an evening. You can often get a room or a wing of a restaurant for no extra money. Just invite friends to meet you there. You can have a blank book or even a looseleaf notebook - just pass out blank pages for people to sign and write something funny about your husband. For one of my husband's birthdays, I asked people to bring something creative. Some wrote song parodies which everyone sang (they handed out song sheets), some wrote a limerick or little poem, one musician friend composed a drum solo, someone else made a collage....and so on. If you're really organized (or if you have a friend who is), make a video with comments and accolades and good natured ribbing by friends, then edit it together and let everyone watch it that night.

Set a budget, and see what you can come up with especially with help from creative friends.
