I was going to suggest gondola too. Go to 103.7 websites, click on gene and julie's half off days, and you can get a gift certficate there for half of face value right now. have fun!
Help! I have a very romantic husband, and I am not. He is so good at coming up with great date ideas for me. He is turning 50 and I need a date idea for the two of us. It would be great if it could be romantic yet also make him feel like the young hip guy that he actually is. :) Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks!

Hi T.,
For my hubby's bday last year i found a great all-inclusive package to Cancun for the weekend and he LOVED it. It is not as much as you probably think. Check out bookit.com for specials. They have ongoin specials and Dallas is one of the best locations to get a great deal to Cancun.
Also, locally here is what I had planned for him this year (I normally start my celebration the NIGHT BEFORE :-) but we couldn't do it due to a family emergency:
The night before his birthday I had reservations at Al Amir for a 8:30 p.m. dinner (belly dancing starts at 9:30 I think)
Then we were going to hop to the Addison Improv for a night of laughter. Then on his actual birthday DAY, I made reservations at Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek - it is AMAZING. You can request a table on the terrace but also let them know you are there celebrating a special birthday and you want to keep an inside table opened in case of inclement weather, they will be happy to do it! Here is the link: http://www.mansiononturtlecreek.com/
ALSO, it is not a bad idea to just check in to Rosewood Mansion for the weekend. It is a beautiful place with a GREAT staff!
Have fun and enjoy!
Treat him to skydiving. He'll love it. His friends will be so jealous. You can film it and document it with pictures. Then head to Nick and Sam's for a fantastic dinner. That's a real guy's gift with romance aferwards as an added bonus.

Wolfgang Puck's new restuarant, 560, at what used to be the old Antares in the Tower downtown. Hubby and I went there for a date and it was amazing! The food was excellent and they have a bar and a sushi bar. Very romantic. Also, I took Hubby for his 40th b- day to Nana @ the Hilton Anatole. It is on the 27th floor and overlooks downtown as well. Food was the best I've ever eaten! They have a little "Library Bar" next to the restaurant that has a great band. Go have a nice dinner and then head to the bar for drinks and dancing. One more suggestion, Javier's near Highland Park. They have a very cool cigar bar and gourmet mexican food.
If you can afford it (approx. $100 p/p) take him to
Al Biernat's

For the most romantic & BEST food ever! They are better than III Forks if you have ever eaten there. The restaurant is like a rich home setting, every item on the menu is to die for...just you & him or family members can join, either way you will impress him!
One of the places my husband and I like to go is Lone Star Park. They have a restaurant there that is nice where you can sit and watch/bet on the horses. It is out of the ordinary and really kinda fun!
Hi T.,
Very nice name (my eldest sister's name). I took my husband to Texas DeBrazil in downtown Fort Worth and he absolutely loved it! We can't wait to go back. Maybe you can have someone go to the restaurant before you guys get there and place some rose pedals on the table along with maybe a pic of the two of you guys. Maybe already have his fav beverage on the table with two wine glasses as well, with some chocolate covered strawberries. Ask to sit in a corner so you guys can have some privacy and read him a poem from your heart telling him how much you have grown to love and appreciate him over the years and not to mention how good he looks at 50...he's the new 40. You know, something like that. Oh by the way, the food is AAAA++++.
Tell him Happy Birthday for me!
Thanks!

I suggest Concerts in the Garden, by the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, at the Fort Worth Botanic Gardens. Pack a romantic picinic, (they do allow wine, beer, etc.) This weekend they have some very "young hip guy" concerts...Friday night is jazz, Saturday is music by the Eagles, and Sunday is music by Led Zepplin. Sit at a table,(buy all 4 seats at a table and bring your boys, or leave the 2 extra seats empty and have the table to yourselves) or sit on the lawn ... or ya'll sit at a table and let the boys sit on the lawn if they are old enough and responsible. The first row of the "Red" tables are good table seats at the least expensive tables. If you go with lawn tickets ... you can actually sit front and center if you get there early and sit in front of the "Blue" tables. (You have to sit in nothing higher in a beach chair or sit on the ground, if you sit in front of the "blue" tables.) People begin lining up to get the "prime" lawn seating shortly before 6pm and the gates open at 6:30. It's great fun, and can be as romantic as you want to make it! Good luck.

I gave my husband a hot air balloon ride a few years ago, and he loved it. I noticed that there were a few up in Plano last night. It is pretty weather dependent, but with some patience, it is an amazing experience. I am not a fan of heights, I was pleasantly surprised at how nice it was. We have all kinds of beautiful pictures from the experience and we hope to do it again some day.
My husband recently got me an in home massage - that was a shocker! Maybe you could start with something like that. It was less expensive than going to a salon/spa, as she doesn't have to pay rental fees.
One of our favorite restaurants is the Mercury Gill. Very romantic and incredible food.
I also surprised my hubby by doing an inexpensive short weekend out of town -I found really good prices on flights to Kansas City, and I rented a car and found a fun B&B, although, I'm sure there are more "sexy" of hotels, such as the W or something along those lines. Some flights are deeply reduced right now, add a rental, and you might be surprised at how inexpensive of a trip you can find.
Good luck - I know it's tough! I'm in your shoes, too. Mu hubby is better at surprises than me. Tell us how it turns out!
You said that you wanted to make him feel like the "young, hip guy that he actually is".
Well, romance does not have to be candles, best restaurants, and soft music.
He is turning 50... remind of of what got him there! Go to a concert with a band that was hot when he was in his hey-day. Pack a cooler and basket of sandwiches, fruit, beer, glasses, and a blanket. After the concert, go someplace quiet and enjoy your picnic. Get freaky under the stars...
I know that I would enjoy a date like that MUCH more than one where I had to get all dressed up and actually sit proper... :)
Remember - romantic does NOT have to be stuffy! It can be fun!
I second the suggestion for Hotel ZaZa (the Dragonfly restaurant and the patio bar are very cool) and Loft 610. Both fun and hip-ish places!
Depending on what you are wanting to do, the Gaylord in Grapevine is fun. There are multiple restaurants, bars, and just fun to walk around without being outside when it is too hot. My husband and I got engaged at the steak house there and we rented a room there for our wedding night. Another one of our favorite restaurants is The Melting Pot. It is around $100 for a couple for the food. If you are looking to do something outside, we have also gone to Dallas and taken a carriage ride around the city, but it might be a little hot for that right now. Another idea might be to recreate a special date for the two of you, maybe your first date or the night he proposed.
I like the horse drawn carriage idea someone else suggested, but I might also recommend a gondala (sp?) boat ride at Las Colinas. In the past their have been discounts on this through the Entertainment book and through Restaurant.com In fact, Restaurant.com has a big sale going on right now. I think there are different options for food and I think some of the gondolliers (sp?) sing. Not your everday outing, that's for sure!
It's expensive but I highly recommend the Four Seasons at Las Colinas. They have several package deals which include the spa. My husband and I had a great time spending the night and then spending the day at the spa--massages, pedicures, etc.
i celebrated my 50th at Gaylord resort in Grapevine..they have the Glass Cactus club with cover bands. A shuttle will take you there and back so you can drink. the hotel itself is wonderful.. i had a girls night out.. but it would be a romantic getaway for a weekend with great room service.. or get a suite and have happy hour in the hotel suite.
Treat his inner kid. Take him and go to Six Flags. Or Hurricane Harbor. Or go play laser tag and/or pool. Go on a dinner horse back ride. If you must be adults, there is a dinner cruise boat on Lake Grapevine.
How much are you wanting to spend? My husband took me to the restaurant at the top of reunion tower for a romantic night and it was fantastic. Its been renovated and turned into a Wolfgang Puck restaurant. The night we went, Troy Aikman and his wife and friends sat 10 feet away. Its fun, classy, hip and trendy all in one, without being snobby at all! I know its not a very unique idea, but, like you, I'm not the best at coming up with creative romantic nights. You could also get a room at the hotel, or another one. I find that my husband and I have the most 'romantic" dates when we feel "fancy" haha and know we don't have to come home to the kiddo! Hope you have fun!
I am not the romantic either, but I love my husband to be. A couple of years agao we had planned our annual dinner out! I had a sitter for thekids and had a friend lined up with my part of the surprise, After we left the house I had purchased new sheets, she put them on the bed, and had the rose petels to shower on top, with a bottle of bubbly and choc covered strawberries! Was waiting when we got home with candles and all! He loved it!
I heard on the radio a couple of years ago about a pilot who will fly you over the city and take you to view the special places to you...your house, the place you were married, your first date, etc. You name the place in this area and he'll take you there.
I did a search and found the one I was thinking of...

If you have time to go out of town for the evening- the River Walk in San Antoinio is a great place to go! They have a couple hotels on the river walk and some really great resturants, plus you can take a gondola down the river in the evening also. You should look it up. My husband took me out to a little Italian resturant out there(I don't remember the name of it) but it was the best italian food I have ever had! I don't think the resturant could fit more than 10 couple at a time so it never gets overly crowded and they have a live jazz band that plays. It's great! It'll be a little expensive to stay there, but it's very romantic and there are tons of things to do.
Have fun!

We had a great time on our anniversary at Nana - it is in the Anatole. The dinner was a splurge but it was worth it. There is a bar with a piano and singer that we hung out at afterward - thanks to the wine we danced the night away (very unusual for us). I wish we had a room there but we live pretty close so made it home. At time we didn't have kids so it wasn't necessary - I will warn you though - nine months later our baby girl was born!
Are you looking for a date night, or date weekend or just 1 overnight?
Take him to a great classy dinner with excellent service. We LOVE Del Frisco's and it is one place we go to truly enjoy a dining experience. Expect to pay over $200, especially if you have wine.
We also LOVE the prime rib at Jaspers located at the Shops of Legacy in Plano. After dinner, go have an after dinner drink at Nylo or Loft 610.
We date night a lot and we frequent the Shops of Legacy area, Nylo, Loft 610, Hotel Zaza downtown, and so many others.
Enjoy your date night. Dress up for him and look especially HOT!! He'll love it. Be sure to finish the night off with some sexy lingerie or his t shirt :)
