Everytime my husband goes for a hair cut (a cut with clippers) afterwards he will get a headache that will last for a day or 2. Has anyone else experienced this?

I bet you are right some type of allergic reaction! Always the same place, same barber and the same chair....

What can I do next?

I never get a headache after a haircut unless I don't like the haircut.

Could there be something in the barber shop that your husband is reacting to?

I will bet he is allergic to some chemical (hair treatment, spray, soap) in the shop. Many headaches can be triggered by environmental factors.

Hmmm...does he tense up during the haircut? If he does, it's possible that is causing his headaches. I know sometimes I clench my teeth when I am either in pain, or a trying to sit very still, that will sometime produce a head ache.

Th only other thing I could think of would be environmental? Does he always go to the same place? Maybe a cleaning solution or something there triggers some sort of allergy. That is strange.

do they shampoo him first or after? I ask because when I get my hair done , I get shampooed over one of those low lying sinks and my head is tilted back , boy do I get a headache.. it aches just between my neck and the base of my head ... so I need to lift my head every couple of minutes to release the tension.. additionally, if your husband doesn't get a shampoo, it could also be because he has to tilt his head a certain way for a period of time... and depending what his job is, e.g. if he uses a computer, could be he is already tense from the day and those slight tilting motions from side to side when the barber cuts your hair might actually be causing your husband's headache..

Does he lay down in a chair in the sink to get his hair washed? If he does then he could be laying down on a bad nerve/pressure point that causes headaches. If I lay down the wrong way, ie, too much pressure at the base of my head without a cushion and towel, I get a migraine. People have been known to get migraines and strokes because of these pressure point nerves. It's a matter of repositioning and cushioning the back of the head and neck properly.

Those shampoo bowls can be very uncomfortable. I have a sore neck after getting my haircut, but it's from leaning back on my neck during the shampoo. A neck issue can definitely cause a headache.
