Hairspray.

Really important question ;-)

I have not used hairspray in 10 years. I'm going to need it though since I'm sportin' a new style. SO: What kind of hairspray do you recommend? One with holding power and no stick (is that even possible?). I have fine, wavy (NOT curly and NOT straight), blah, hair.

TIA

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

So, I'll be styling my a mohawk (not liberty spikes). 1/2 inch buzzed on the sides, 2-4 inches for middle. It drives me nuts when it's frumpy/flat/over to the side. I'd like it to be streamlined down the middle, pompadour front, a little lift and gentle spike (like a duck's fluffy buns) in the back. I need it to stay where I tell it to!

I second Kristina's suggestion. Rusk W8less is the BEST hairspray I've ever used. I'll probably never switch. You should try it.

Holding Power, No stick you want products by Rusk mostly from their W8less line :) available at Ulta
If you want cheaper you will get cheaper but Garnier Fructis has a better product than many in the hair spray department try the anti humidity line.

Big Sexy CAN easily leave your hair with a crunch if it's fine ... I have used Rusk and BRUSHED my hair after the Rusk was in for a few hours(the flip style early 2000) and it still held all day!

Well, that is going to require some styleing mousse, root lifter, possibly a palmade or texture balm ... possibly volume curlers if you have a pomp going in the front - really a picture of it would help to understand the full effect you are going for.

What are you trying to do with it that you need hair spray?

Best stuff for FIRM hold?: Found in the ethnic aisle. Pink stuff, with white and black and red lettering. The name escapes me this very moment, but as a white girl with super red afro curly hair who does it 'pin up style' often, this stuff's the BEST!!

I recommend Rusk's "W8less" hairspray. I use a LOT of hairspray and I used to use TIGI's Hard Head but I found that it was WAY too sticky and if I used too much, it left a visible "mist" of hairspray all over my head. I recently bought W8less and I love it. It is deemed a "firm hold" hairspray but it absolutely is weightless. You can't see it on your hair. I use a LOT of it to get the hold I want, but again, it still leaves your hair feeling soft, shiny and manageable - not stiff and sticky. The price for me is right at about $7.00 - $10.00 a can (depending on where you get it). I buy mine from a beauty supply store. I recently bought a two-pack at The Nordstrom Rack for $14.97.

One caveat: It is rather fragrant with a kind of "pomegranate" smell. I like the smell but it might be overpowering if you are sensitive to scents.

Good luck!

Another vote for Rusk. I use hairspray maybe once every 3 years, and when I do, I use it. I like a lot of their products.

Big Sexy is amazing!

I hate the stuff myself....I mean hairspray in general. Big Sexy is the only thing that does not make my hair look like a puff ball...or leave it feeling nasty at the end of the day....

It is good to control the humidity issue alot of us have here in the good ole' NW....I can have my hair straight before leaving...Walk outside and poof it is as big as a house again.

can we approach this from another angle? What are you using to achieve the hairstyle? What products are being used to create the style?

If you change that, you may not need a hairspray with holding power. :)

I tend to use spiker gel mixed 1/2 & 1/2 with extra-firm gel to get mega lift. But normally, I rely on Fructis's root booster....works great on my whole head, not just the roots! (just a thought)

I love Shaper Plus. I have used it for years and I will not use any other kind. It isn't sticky, I can run my hands thru my hair and still it holds. love it.

Hi Ephie,

The hairspray I love, and I have the same type of hair you have, is in the gold can, called "Freeze It Mega Freeze Hairspray". I usually find it at Fred Meyer.
