Hi,
I am looking for some alternatives for hair removal. I am so tired of my underarm and bikini area. I am simply tired of shaving and I can't afford laser. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Magic Shave. It's in the African American products at Walgreens or CVS. This stuff is great for bikini areas, I've got friends who call it a "brazilian in a bottle'. It's made for African American men to use on their heads, so it's specially formulated for curly hair. It works very well, is relatively gentle, and lasts a week or so.

I bought an epilator a year ago and really like it for removing the hair in my under-arm area and on my thighs and outer bikini area. (I get the rest of my girl area waxed because it is far too painful to consider epilating, and waxing it myself is too time consuming- takes me an hour to do what it takes my waxer 15 minutes to do, and it hardly hurts when she does it). I suggest waxing/epilating because if you keep it up for a couple months, the re-growth really does slow down and thin out, and I have to space waxing appointments further and further apart just to have enough to pay to get done!

I get tired of shaving too. Ocasionally I will use Nair, but I have sensitive skin and sometimes it breaks me out. Using aloe afterward usually helps though. One time when I went to go get a pedicure, they were dead slow, I walked in and the manicure lady was plucking her underarm hair. She was the wax lady too. I asked her if it hurt, she told me at frist but it doesn't grow in as quick, and begins to get more sparse. She said even though she waxes others, she would never wax again, only pluck. Ouchie. Good Luck

Waxing is the way to go. I really don't think the cold wax works very well. Go with the kind you warm up and you can do it at home. The bikini is very easy to do. The underarms will be more difficult because you have to wait until the hair is a certain length, and that could take a little while. Also, the hair often grows in different directions. When I did my underarms a long time ago it did help but didn't get all the hair.

Have you heard of the Tria? It's a home laser hair removal system. It's a bit of an expense, but way cheaper than salon laser treatments. I am saving up for one myself as I am sick and tired of shaving too! I think laser treatments only work on dark colored hair though.

When it first came out, it was $795 and now it's down to $495. It's getting more in my price range, woohoo!

You can check it out at www.triabeauty.com. I think they have a payment plan too.
