Gymboree Substitute

I have had my daughter (11 mos old) in Gymboree for several months and she seems to enjoy it, but the cost is a bit high and she doesn't get as much out of the classes as she does the "open gym" days. Does anyone know of anything like Gymboree's open gym - a place to go climb, play and interract with other children close to her age in a safe and clean environment?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone for these awesome suggestions! We have kept busy the last few weeks trying out new activities - Deanna Rose Farm, GAGE Center Open Gym, Edutainment Center at Paradise Park and just enjoying the outdoors. I appreciate all of the suggestions and will keep trying things out. My little girl has loved all of these places.

I'm not sure how much it is or where you are located, but Paradise Park has a great activity center with lots of different areas inside and out. It is in Lee's Summit! Good luck!

The previous responder suggested Kidz Kabana and I just wanted to update that they've recently moved to a new building, but it's just across the streem from it's previous location in Lee's Summit. Its new and much nicer than the previous building. My daughter goes there twice a week for daycare and I really love it. The new location has a very large gym with a variety of play areas. They are a great solution for hourly care for those that don't have a regular babysitter.

Hi J.,

I'm not sure of your location. But my daughter goes to Gage in Blue Springs. They have a Parent-Tot class that is $50 a month or $45 if you pay early. They also have what they call Bump City on Friday nights where it's basically an open gym. I'm not sure what they charge for that though.

Or there is also the Edge in Liberty that has Open gym in during the day. They charge anywhere from $3-$7 depending on the age for the open play.

Hope that this helps.

Hi J.,

I'm not sure what part of the KC area you are in. But I have a 3 year old girl. Dave's Gymnastics has a parent and tot class, however I'm not sure if they have 1 yr olds. It is very reasonable and doesn't require any contract. It is still scheduled class times and somewhat structured as well. It's in Lee's Summit. So you might look them up and see if they have a class for 11 mos.

The other thing that I've done for my daughter recently is Kid's Kabana, which is also in Lee's Summit. And they may have other locations. It's actually a pay by the hour drop off place that has all sorts of things for kids to do. It's not the newest or bright of a place, but it is clean and interactive. I've dropped her there to play for a couple hours or so. At $7 an hour. They have other plans as well.

I work from home, so sometimes I need the free time, however I do understand that my daughter is older. I hope you find something that works.

Take care,
J.

Hi - I just found a place called "Flip Zone" in Lee's Summit that has open gym on certain Fridays for $5 a child. It's great! Check it out!

Great American Gymnastic Express, (GAGE) In blue springs offers preschool gymnastic classes, as well as open gym times.

We have three carnival type slides, 3 in ground tramps, one long tramp, also in ground, one above the ground tramp, a bar set, a foam pit with trapeze, a three kid swing, changing gymnastics rotations, and cute music.

Open gym
Wednesday
2-3pm $5

Friday
10-11 am $5

Friday
6:30-8:30 $7 (since it's longer than the others)

I am no sure where yu live but I like to take my kids out to the Independence Center. The have a play area down by the food court (free of charge)They are these soft things to climb on and through. They clean them and if you go during the day on a week day their are not very many kids and most of them are young. This is where we go when it's not nice enough to go to the park.I think she would enjoy that because she wouold be free to play how she would like.
