I've made these a few times and really liked them. I did add white chocolate chips...just be sure to add them once the mixture has cooled a bit otherwise the chocolate melts.

OK Mamas, I need a good recipe. My kids love granola bars, like the Quaker Chewy chocolate chip kind. But, with both kids having one every day, the cost adds up. Even worse, the sugar content adds up. I'd like to make my own granola bars. I've looked on the Internet, but there are hundreds of recipes, and a lot of them got horrible reviews about the granola bars being sticky, messy, and not holding together into their bar form. My kids don't like eating sticky things or getting their hands dirty. Girls, sheesh. Does anyone have a really good granola bar recipe?
Thanks!

I found one - I think it's from weelicious. She's a mom who makes super healthy food for her kids. I did put the chocoloate chips in it. There is honey in it and maybe some canola oil. It was super easy to make. I would say I might have needed a little bit more honey/oil to have the bars to stick together a little better. Very good in my opinion, and easy. It took oatmeal and a little bit of wheat flour too. I'm not at home right now, so can't get you the recipe, but look at weelicious.com for it. (she's on Facebook too)

No bake and chewy just like Quaker. I use 1/2 cup brown sugar(the recipe explains this) because they stick together better. I also use the berry granola from my store and we almost eat the whole pan in one sitting. I don't think I'm saving too much money, since I used to buy the Walmart brand or Aldi, but the flavor is why I'm always asked to make them!
I've recently started making my granola bars too, i like the ones from allrecipes.com cranberry nut and homemade chewy granola bars. Also tried another recipe with rice krispies:

My kids love the last recipe, I made it with dried strawberries, but you could use chocolate chips to make it like the Quaker choc. chip one, the only thing is, need to cut the sugar, just the honey in there is enough, otherwise they come out WAY too sweet
i agree with JO look up the alton brown recipe I make it all the time and its WONDERFUL!
I was watching Good Eats a few weeks ago and Alton Brown had a good one. Just google Alton Brown, food network and granola bars. :)
Here's my own recipe.
They're different than the Quaker-chewy, which we also buy, but a nice alternative, more rustic, less corn-syrupy, not sticky at all.
Great for a long walk -- I put them in a baggy in my pocket when we go to forest preserves. My kids are 5 and 2 1/2.
In a small, microwave safe bowl (I use a 2-cup pyrex measuring cup)
2 Tbsp water
2 Tbsp sugar
Boil them in the mic. and beat with a fork.
Add
2 Tbsp softened butter
2 Tbsp brown sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp salt
1 egg (beat into mixture immediately)
1/4 cup crunchy peanut butter
Mix thoroughly in the pyrex container.
In medium mixing bowl combine:
2 cups old-fashioned oatmeal (not instant)
2 Tbsp whole wheat flour
1/3 to 1/2 cup mini-chocolate chips
Drizzle the liquid mixture over the oatmeal mixture, stirring it as you go, until evenly coated.
Spread and pat onto a cookie sheet into a nice big rectangle (on top of parchment paper if you have it.)
Pat it down to about a centimeter thick, leave it a little loose.
Bake at 350 for 20 minutes (chewier) to 28 minutes (crisper).
Let them cool and cut into squares.
