J.M.
I saw that someone else suggested this...Anna Claire. I know a little girl with this name and she is called Anna Claire, not just Anna with Claire as the middle name. Best of luck!
My husbands Grandmother (who has passed), her name was Clara Mae. He adored her beyond what words can describe... she raised him, they spoke EVERY day, sometimes more than once. It was a relationship closer than any I have ever seen a grandson ever have with a grandma. So when she suddenly passed I knew that if we ever had a girl we would name our baby in honor of her.
Unfortunately, his family ONLY produces boys so the likelyhood of a girly is rather slim. However, on a longshot we tried the Shettles method and we are anxiously awaiting to find out what we've got.
So.... how do we incorporate the name Claire into a name without the first name ACTUALLY being Claire?
What we're considering is something along the lines of a double name such as "Ella Claire" BUT Ella is used sooooooo often now, so I wanted to get some fresh new ideas.
Thanks,
C.!
Additional Note: I ADORE the name "Ivy" - I always have... I am tall and willowy and have long curly hair that reminds me of tangled ivy. So I always pictured having a girl named Ivy or Lily (because I'm the palest of whites you can imagine).
So.... Ivy Claire? Lily Claire?
Now pause for a moment. Say Ivy Claire. With a southern accent. What does it sound like? "Well, I declare"
Would you have made that correlation if I hadn't have pointed it out? LOL. I do love it, but is it tooooooo southern?
We ARE southern, but - - - -
I saw that someone else suggested this...Anna Claire. I know a little girl with this name and she is called Anna Claire, not just Anna with Claire as the middle name. Best of luck!
Are you against Claire for a first name? I think it's a beautiful name! I had a Grammy Clara too. :-)
Katherine Claire? (Katie)
Claire Elizabeth?
Elizabeth Claire
Claire Marie
Claire June or J-something? (love the nickname CJ!)
Kenzy Claire
Danielle Claire?
This are websites full of lists of double names, which I really like because as they get older they can choose one to go by, go by initials, or stick with both names.
Some I found with Claire
Anna Claire
Bettie Claire
Emma Claire
Eva Claire
Georgia Claire
Katie Claire
Mary Claire
Ida Claire
Nina Claire
Sara Claire
To me they all sound really southern. :) Not a bad thing. I really like Emma Claire, but you will have the same concern as with Ella Claire, Emma is very popular right now. I also like Mary Claire and Anna Claire.
Hope that helps!!
I think I am missing something. You want to name your baby girl in honor of your husband's grandmother, whose name was Clara but you want to use the name Claire?
I think Clara Mae is adorable. I don't understand the dilemma.
M
I vote Elizabeth Claire. But, I'm a little biased. My daughter's name is Claire Elizabeth.
I have Madelyn Claire which of course we love. The name Mae is beautiful , too. What about Paisley Mae??
What is wrong with just using Clara Mae? I absolutely love the name and it would be a wonderful way to truly honor the woman who made your husband into the man you love . . .
Ainsley Claire
Jenna Claire
Amelia Claire
Love the name Claire! Best of luck to you!!!
Isabella Claire - sounds dainty and beautiful... yet Savvy and sophisticated! :)
Amanda Claire
Elisa Claire
Rachel Claire
Anna Claire
Courtney Claire
Shawna Claire
Emma Claire
Anya Claire
Mary Claire--very nice lady who is in charge of the Girl Scout Council here in VA.
I thought about Claire for my daughter's middle name. We settled on Jessica Paige.
My daughter's name is Jillian Clare. I loved that name...and she does too (she's 18 now). We spelled it that way because our street name was "Clair" and I did not want her to think we named her after the street we lived on. lol
My middle child we were debating whether to name her Elia (after my husband's sister, calling her Ellie) which is similar to one of your two names or Hayley, so we named her Halie with that spelling. And her middle name is Lynn, same as mine.
Other suggestions:
Samantha Claire
Julia Claire
Hannah Claire
Clarisse Claire
Lillian Claire (and call her Lily?)
Either way you can't go wrong with what you choose because your obviously giving some thought to it.
THis one has probably already been said but it gets my vote. Mary Claire. I knew a girl in school with that name and always thought it was a good name, and no one seemed to have a prob. saying both names together.
My 11-y/o niece is Hannah Claire, but called Claire. A friend of mine is due in about a month and she's naming her daughter Johnnie-Claire.
Really, I think that whatever first name you decide on will go with Claire as a middle name.
Emory Claire
Emily Claire
I had a boyfriend named Claire once, so I guess it can by a guys name too.
You could make the first name just be E, so she would be E Clair... lol, j/k
I love Claire as a first name... my oldest daughter (4 yr old) is Claire Ava. Maybe Ava Claire :)
What about Frances, or Francine?? The combination sounds lovely and there aren't very many little girls with those names anymore.
Lillian Claire
Emily Claire
Ivy Mae Claire
***Hope you have a lil' girl****
If your precious baby is a boy, how about
(First name) Clarence or Clayton as a middle name to honor her.
I think Elizabeth Claire sounds pretty. Good luck!!
My great grandmother's name was Clara. :) Incidentally, everyone called her Alice, although I have no idea why?
So how about Alice Claire? I think Alice is such a neat name for a girl... You could then shorten it to "Ali Claire" which I think is just adorable and it flows nicely off the tongue!! It just makes me think of a spunky, girly girl.
I also like Mary Claire for something more traditional-sounding, which also incorporates the "Ma" from "Mae" which would further resemble grandma's name! OR how about Macy Claire? Also incorporates the "Ma" from grandma's "Mae"?
None of the names I mentioned are terribly over-used right now, so they may work?
Best wishes on getting your little pink bundle of joy!
Anna Claire. I work with a teacher whose name is Anna Claire. She goes by Claire. Very pretty!!
Carolyn Claire? M. Claire? Sarah Claire? Andrea Claire? Jenny Claire?
Mallory Claire is cute.
Considering your additional note, I think Ivy Claire is fine. I don't think people will make the correlation with "Well I declare." Also, I agree w/others. If you want to honor the grandmother, use Clara Mae.
Also, I like using Anna Claire & Ella Claire and calling her both of the names....not just Anna or Ella. I love Ella Claire actually.......
And, you could forgo your wish of Ivy and use Clara as the first name, just find another middle name if you didn't like Mae. I have a niece who is Emma Mae and at first I thought it was too southern, but now, 12 yrs later, it still fits her perfectly. Clara Elizabeth, Clara Reese, Clara "anything".....what about some other family names?
Hope you get a girl!!
First of all, and I'm in no way questioning what you and your husband want to do, its your choice, but to put my 2 cents in:
I think Clara Mae in itself is a beautiful name, she's unlikely to have many other Clara's in her class, and old fashioned names have really made a come back. I think I'm also partial to it because for some odd reason my hubby calls me "Clara" as a pet name - I have no idea why (my name is L.!)
As a next choice - why not go with Claire as the first name? I love it! I even considered it all my life as my daughters name, until I got married and it didn't go with my hubby's last name at all!
If you are set on Claire as a middle name, how about Maya Claire? It kind of incorporates the two. Or perhaps you have someone on your side you are close to or that has passed away you could honor and make it a double honor name. I also thought Madelaine Claire that someone suggested was cute, though that name might be popular.
If you really want to honor the grandmother, I would leave Clara or Claire as the first name, it would probably mean a lot to your husband and both names are beautiful.
And if you do end up with a boy? There's always Clayton! :)
Of course you should do what ever you want - my husband wanted to honor his deceased mother by giving her name to our little girl - it was Shirley Rose. I absolutely refused Shirley and put Rose in the middle! So, though I love my advice take it with a grain of salt :)
Good luck on getting your little girl and congrats on the new addition!!
My name is E. Klare. Em-lie, not Em-ily. Just 2 syllables so its a little diff. Good luck.
I have a friend with a Lilly Claire, and another with Clairian (like the asthma medicine!) I'm assuming you've looked in the baby name book for forms of Claire?
I don't know your last name to see how it rolls off the tongue, but I may have some sugestions.
Reagan Claire
Lindsey Claire
Madeline Claire
McKenna Claire
Nichole Claire
Deanna Claire
Deidra Claire
Brianna Claire
Just keep trying names you like with it and one will fit perfectly. Good Luck!
Claire Anne is cute and Anne is not used too much now days!
We named our daughter with a middle name of Claire. Her first name is rather unusual so we just call her Claire. The one thing I found that makes a first name go well with a middle name of Claire is that it should have more than one syllable, and end in a vowel sound. The name you gave as an example, Ella Claire, actually has both these characteristics. Here are some other ideas:
Rebecca Claire
Amanda Claire
Gianna Claire
You'll notice one other characteristic of these names is that the accent is on the second syllable, which is also the second-to-last syllable. Re-BEC-ca, Am-AN-da, Gi-AN-na. I liked that cadence to the name although you may prefer something different.
Hope you get a girl! The story of your husband and his grandmother was touching, thanks for sharing.
What do you think of Avery Claire? I like Lily Claire, too!
I have a friend who just recently called her daughter Vivian Claire. Already they call her Vivie.
A friend of mine is Lindsay Claire :)
I'm with Natalia.. I like Isabella Claire, has a nice ring to it. That was the first name that popped into my head before I read the comments.
Lillian Mae (Lily for short?)
Lara Claire
Elly Claire (lol-Elly Mae)
Clara Elise
How about Avery Claire
definitely isla pronounced eye la - there was a british actress called isla st clair and she is lovely
A friend of mine named her daughter Laura Claire, which I think is pretty.
Clara Mae gets my vote. I like old-fashioned, traveling-across-the-prairie-in--a-wagon names.
My cousins named their daughter Claire Marie.
Jana Claire
Jenna Claire
Christina Claire
Amber Claire
Destiny Claire
Love the name Claire....a friend of mine had an adorable little Ivy Claire.
But you could also use Mae...or May. Very cute name. Congrats and good luck!
Haha..I didn't even see your additional note til after I posted! I forgot, I also have a cousin named Molly Claire.
Aubrey Claire
Elisa Claire
Amberly Claire
Brayleigh Claire
When I was younger I liked the name Brenna Claire.
I have a friend (that is from the South) and their little girl's name is Rebekah Claire...and that is what they call her. I just LOVE it.....
Milly or Millie Claire
Paula Claire
Jae Claire
Bella Claire - Bella means "beautiful" and compliments the name Claire quite gracefully.
our dd is emily claire and we call her that like mary elizabeth, a double name...btw, we get compliments a lot. i wasnt sure at first, dh loved it...but now i really like it. i love Claire Olivia and my best friends dd is Claire Victoria.
Dear C.,
You can go down a whole list and find something you like. Anna Claire, Brianna or Brady Claire, Carly or Charlee Claire, Emily or Emma Claire, Fiona Claire, and so on. There are so many cute names out there, I'm sure you'll find something.
Its wonderful that you are looking so carefully. The name is the first really important thing that you give your baby. Claire is a beautiful rememberance of your husband's grandmother who obviously meant so much to him. Best of luck! D.
Your husband's grandmother's name was Clara, are you using Claire as a spin-off of Clara? Claire is beautiful. I would use it as a first name:
Claire Elaine
Emily Claire
Raley Claire
Casey Claire
I loved the name Claire when I was pregnant it is beautiful so I named my beautiful girl Abigail Claire....
My 8 yr old is Claire Ashley. Claire is such a pretty name :)
