False Advertising

Hiya mammas (and papas).

I notice that jeans (and genes) are a hot topic here, one that I've contributed to many times.

After years of wearing low-rise jeans, I am trading them in for the real deal, ones that come up to my actual waist.

While I love the look of low-rise, I believe that they are false-advertising. Sure they hide tummies but for me, just feeling my English muffin top make its presence known, is very distracting and upsetting.

I say English muffin top because it's not quite a fully-risen muffin top, (Thankfully.), though if I bought a size lower I can have one absolutely free!

For real, I actually see low-rise jeans as exacerbating the muffin-top condidtion, unless you boast a flat or concave tummy.

Anyone else agree? Disagree?

And with that I will go running :-)

What can I do next?

I've never understood low-rise jeans, because they present a serious engineering problem. They can't be too loose, or they'll slide down even further (ew). They can't be too tight, because then you have a huge upsquish problem. So we are left with them fitting "just tight enough" which means you're still pushing up some of the squishy bit and will look awkward regardless. Unless you look like Halle Barry, in which case, I hate you.

As a man, it doesn't matter to me if they are low-rise or not. It's how they fit. Ill-fitting pants are the worst.

Too tight, not attractive.
Too loose, not attractive.

Muffin tops don't bother me, again, it's how they fit.

I don't think low rise jeans are flattering on most of the women I see them on, sorry ladies, but it's true. I am so sick of seeing all of you tugging at your pants to pull them up to stop flashing me your butt crack and underwear. I am tired of seeing your butt crack and underwear. Unless you have no skin or fat from your hip bones up you just cause a shelf. Because they sit on your hips they are naturally going to simply wiggle down as you walk from the natural movement of your hips from walking. In order to prevent it from doing that you have to buy too small a size, which only makes more of a shelf for anything that doesn't get squashed inside the minimal amount of material you have with such a low rise.
You don't have to go up to your neck to have flattering jeans, but anything lower than a "just below the waist" is destined to not look good on the majority of women.

Actually I can put on a fair bit of weight and not sport the muffin top. Just the way I am built I suppose. I have hips, the jeans sit on the hips so no need to buy them two sizes smaller so they don't fall down. :)

Funny thing is I have seen skinny skinny women with muffin tops because they have no hips. :p

You are right, let's not show our flaws!!! I gave up low rise jeans right after becoming a mama, just because, as Carlos Mencia (the comedian) puts it: "low rise jeans don't go well with the c-section scar". Even though I did not have c-section, I started to dress appropriately just because no.1) I am not 20 anymore, no.2) My belly inflates very often and I do not want to draw attention to it, no.3) I don't think it's classy to show my thong or my butt crack when bending over. Few years ago I found some awesome Guess jeans that are kind of "taller" in the back, very flattering so i stuck to those for a long time. the other day, though, I tried on this low-rise pair of jeans which made my butt simply irresistible...you know what??? I bought them and I am wearing them with my shirts well tucked in (belt is on), so I can still be sexy without showing skin. I think it's a good compromise ;-)

I was watching 'What Not To Wear' a while back, and they demonstrated how high-rise jeans can actually make your bottom a lot longer, bigger and just not as nice. They showed how a lower cut jeans with pockets on the butt cut the size of the bottom, but made it look a lot perkier, rounder and generally more attractive.

Definitely a good cut around the butt is what is needed, with a nice boot cut down below to balance the figure.

Hip huggers / low rise jeans were a horrible look in the 60's and they are even worse now.
You have to be about 15 lbs under weight in order to really look good in them and way too many ample butts and guts spill out over the top of them.
It is not a hot look - not by a long shot.
I always liked a good fitting pair of jeans that came to the waist.
