I always have a problem with my jeans and my butt. I feel like I have to wear something LONG or I look like I have plumber butt (you see my crack).. Help me with some jean shopping. I also want something cool and hip. No mamma jeans!

What can I do next?

You can get higher waisted jeans now that have a modern fit overall. I always knew the low waisted jeans trend would come to an end for the very reason you mention. I've noticed waist lines are going up, but the styles are anything but mom jeans. Take a look at Lee, Eddie Bauer and Lands End for moderately priced modern options.

Just get jeans thst "sit at waistline." Not low or mid but at waist.

The Loft has a "Curvy" line that covers it all up and looks modern.

I have always had that problem. "Curvy" fit solved it for me. :) lots of brands have it now, at decent prices.

Generally, if you are showing butt crack you need a higher rise or a design that is cut differently and suits your body shape. Finding the right pair can be such a chore, because you have to try everything on.

You didn't mention your build, but sometimes the issue isn't the style but the sizing. It is actually easy for many women to get into a pair that are a bit too small. Try the next size up in the style you currently own to see if that fits better.

This happened to me after I had kids! Suddenly jeans that fit me were sliding off my butt whenever I bent down, sat, squatted to help a toddler....somehow my body changed just enough or something....

Anyway. It's not about the jeans. It's about wearing a belt. I can still wear flattering cool jeans, NEVER MOM JEANS, from American Eagle (cheap way to get different silhouettes with flattering butt), or Gap 1969 or any of the more expensive designer jeans, INCLUDING lower rises, as long as I wear a belt so they don't ride down my butt when I bend over. And of course some higher rise jeans are cool, every brand offers a few. But a belt will stop your butt crack issue in any style :)

It's weird, because I never used to have to wear a belt other than for decoration, but now it actually serves a purpose.

G.,

Stop buying low-rise jeans/pants. That's your problem!! Sorry - but there are ALL sorts of pants out there now...low rise, mid rise, etc... the low rise is what gives you plumbers crack...

Go to a "better" store like Macy's, Nordstrom's and ask for a personal shopper and help finding the clothes that fit you right...

If you lived out here in DC - I'd tell you go to my girlfriend's consignment shop - where she has "personal shoppers" who help clients find the right clothes for them....

GOOD LUCK!

You want mid-rise. Also any jeans with the spandex blend will have a tendency to give you that problem. You could also wear a belt.

I love Lee Riders. No back gap giving that plumbers butt look. They do have some lower waist but most are at the waist. Plus I like that they have the pants that are supposed to slim a bit.

What a funny subject line! You had me cracking up! (All pun intended!)

I would have answered Coldwater Creek, but they closed. (Stupid new owner ran a good business into the ground.) Like Sadie says, try Macy's.

I don't wear jeans specifically for this reason. Jeans are not your friend. If you just have to wear them do it at home. Buy some nice slacks with a stretch across the butt that you are completely comfortable in. When I find a pair at Cato I get them in several colors but I do end up with a bunch of black pants. Then I can wear tee shirts or nice tops to dress them up or down.

i like lee, as they come in all shapes and sizes. anything low-slung will ride down as the day goes on the and jean fibers stretch, so you have to get ones that are supposed to sit at the waist, not at the hips.
but then, i'm not cool and hip, so i probably don't know. my jeans have some stretch to 'em, so are they 'mamma jeans'?
