after my son cody was born (2003) i chose the procedure called Essure to be "fixed" i had a rough time being pregnant and deliverying him that my OBGYN almost begged me not to get pregnant again.. (even though he was the 1% who got by while on the pill) But it seems like that since i had the procedure done, my periods have become heavier and i cramp alot.. before, i would only go for 4 or 5 days.. now i go for 7 or 8 somtimes.. has anyone ever had this done and if so has it changed ur monthly's at all?...

What can I do next?

Hi M..

I also had the Essure procedure. I had it March 23 of 2005. The doctor told me that the longer heavier periods are a possiblity. For the first yr or so I seen the changes in my cycle..but then it started to go back to the old way.. I would say that the cramps got were painful as well, but only for like the first day of my period. most times my cycle since the procedure is 4 days, then i have one "clean" day then i spot the day after so i guess thats technically 6 days. Once in a while it will last 7-8 days. Fortunately none of the changes have been bothersome enough for me to regret doing it. I actually was interviewed to do a testimonial about the procedure because im so happy with it, and do highly recommend it to anyone. As long as my periods dont keep me in bed, and unable to take care of my son, any changes are worth it..good luck.

M.,

I had my tubes tied after my second c-section, and my periods are worse, as well. I know exactly how you feel. My obgyn told me I could go on the pill, but I get terrible migraines. He also told me about a procedure that "freezes" the lining of the uterus which vertually stops your period. You might get a little spotting, but that is it. I think it is called oblating. My friend had it done and said it is the best thing she's ever done. We both felt like we were hemrodging every month! It's awful. The only other option is a hystorectomy, which I thought was ridiculous. I would talk to your doc about oblating or the pill. Either one should help. The pill will also help if you have any pms symptoms. Best of luck. Like I said, I go through the EXACT SAME THING every month. It's terrible!!

Hi M.,
I have had the essure procedure done as well. I think it has been wonderful! Yes, my periods do last a day or two longer and are a bit heavier but I think it is not that bad. I do like one of the responses in this thread that states that if you were on the pill before your period was shorter and lighter because of that. I was on the pill as well and that makes total sense. It may be that you are comparing your cycle to your "pill cycle" rather than your body's own natural cycle. Anyhow, I hope everything is okay with you.

I also had this procedure done in 2004 after my son was born. My periods became very painful and heavier, they also lasted about 2 days longer then they used to. Sometime I bleed between periods. I went to see a OBGYN and she put me on birth control to see if it helped and it did, my periods got shorter and the pain was not as bad. I hope this helps a little, good luck.

I am sorry to respond with what I like to call "non"advice, but I am not familiar with the essure technique. Can you have it removed? If so, it is difficult? I would consider your options of going that route. You gave birth to 3 children, how about your hubby step up and have a vasectomy? Fast, easy and now can be done without a scapple or stitches.

Good luck

I'm planning on having the Essure procedure done later this year (I'm pregnant now). I haven't read/heard anything about your symptoms, so I'll definately be watching this thread. I already have long periods...but the idea of heavier cramps doesn't sound appealing. Thanks for posting! Sorry I don't have any advice.

I haven't had this done but everyone I know who has had it done wishes they didn't do it. They said the their periods are heavier and a lot more pain. You might want to talk to your dr. I know after hearing my friends complain about it I would never do it.

My hubby is getting a vasectomy. I figure I had the 3 kids and now he can get the vasectomy.

My friend had a procedure done, I'm not sure what it was called but she had extremely heavy and long periods. If that is the procedure where there is a warm balloon type of instrument put into your uterus to "cauterize" it, it worked wonders for her, she has very little menstruation if any. You have to be certain that you do not want any more children because it is not reversable.
Good luck!

I don't know if you were made aware that this is a common complaint among women who were on the pill before the procedure and not after. The pill GREATLY reduces cramping, flow, and length of your period. I have not had it done but I bet it's because of that.
