M.M.

Good luck!
My husband and I are considering permanent birth control. I have been doing some research and came upon something that I had not heard of. It is called Essure. All I know about it is what I've read. Has anyone heard of it or had it done?
I go in for my annual exam in March and will ask my doctor what she thinks. I do know that she does the procedure, as I saw her as a provider on the Essure site. I will probably have a hysterectomy sometime as a preventative measure. My Mom had uterine cancer last year and her oncologist said that it can be hereditary. She is in her 60s, so I figured that I may have one close to menopause...I'm only in my 30s now.

I have not yet had it done. But I have done lots of research and talked to my doctor. When the time comes (my iud still has a few more years) this is the form of permanent birth control I will get!
As it is a fairly new form of BC, I too am interested in hearing of anyone elses experience in getting this done.
I had mine done back in December and easy recovey, not painful during the procedure and it took about 10 minutes. I was back at work the next day. No spotty or anything! Yay. I will go back at the end of this month for the follow up test.
I had Essure done in June, and I'm so happy. I read a lot of the other posts before I decided, and they were really helpful.
As with anything, you can find many horror stories on the internet. The thing that worried me was that the horror stories were kind of awful sounding (many resulting in hysterectomies). My OB does the procedure and she said in about 15% of cases, she has to go in a surgically remove the coils, tubes, or uterus and didn't really recommend it.
The only thing I really know about it is that this has been out longer than the Adiana, but contains nickle. Since it contains nickle, I cannot use it. That's why I didn't investigate more.
The Adiana is silicone and gets inserted into the fallopian tube just like the Essure but hasn't been out on the market nearly as long.
My hubby and I have come to the conclusion that he will be getting a vasectomy instead. That's been around a whole lot longer than both.
