Hello ladies. I'm wondering if anyone has a great reference for a back doctor, spine surgeon, Orthopaedic surgeon? I have issues with my low back due to years of rheumatoid and osteoarthritis. I've been going to the Beaumont Pain clinic on and off for 3 years. I've had all kinds of injections including rhizotomy. However, nothing is working anymore. I just finished physical therapy, which only helps temporarily. I take tons of medication for my arthritis, including muscle relaxers and narcotics for my back, when needed.
I saw a surgeon yesterday and he was not encouraging. He told me my situation was mild and basically said I just have to "manage the pain". What the he'll does he think I've been doing for 3 years???? I'm only 40 years old and I have two small boys, ages 3 and 6. I get a lot of help from my mom and husband, but my quality of life just sucks.

I need a second opinion. I would like a doctor that is both experienced and compassionate. And, not one that is going to spend 5 minutes with me and basically write me off!

Help mamas!

What can I do next?

Hi J.---My neighbor, Jason Sadowski, is an orthopedic surgeon at Beaumont. He is a specially trained trauma surgeon. I'm not sure what practice he is in, nor do I know anything about his bedside manner, but he is a great neighbor.

I am so sorry to hear of your struggles. I have chronic back pain because of muscle issues, so I am some what aware of the frustration of not being able to move well. Chronic pain is the worst.

I don't know if you'd be interested, but I work with a company that found a way to put fruit and veggie juice powders in capsules, 17 of them as a matter of fact. Independent research shows that this whole food concentrate helps to balance the immune system----it helps to calm it so that disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis become less of a problem over time. Additional research also shows that it helps to calm inflammation, a condition that when in a chronic state, leads to cancer, heart disease and immune system disorders.

I pray that you take the time to chat with me to check this out. Our bodies are infinitely capable of healing themselves if we give them the correct help. I would not suggest that you eat badly, but rather your body has been challenged somehow that even with a good diet, disease has taken over. Sometimes we need a better than good diet, but that's really hard to do. This whole food concentrate is just that, food, and the body recongnizes it as such. Give me a call and let's see if I have any new ideas for you.

I have a BS in Home Economics and I have been taking a series of classes taught by a Naturopath who has her PhD in Nutrition. I feel that I am well qualified to help. You have a lot of life to live and the way you are living now is no way to live.

So give me a call. I'm home all day today. We can talk about Jason as well, unless he was the Dr. that previously blew you off. Good luck and God Bless. D. ###-###-####

Hi! I don't know if you have looked into chiropractic care at all, but we have a wonderful chiropractor who also does reflexology and pain relief as well. He has been IMMENSELY helpful for my husband and I. Before I started seeing him I only had about 40% use of my right arm and lots of lower back pain (I am epileptic and had been living with the the pain inflicted when I fall down from seizures for years) and after about 5 months, I was doing extremely well. We now see him once or twice a month for maintenence. The wonderful thing is, that he is a straight talker who will address your needs and give you the treatment you need, not everything in the book or try to upsell you. Anyway, it might be an alternative while you look into surgery-- or after seeing him a few times, you may not need surgery right away! Their website and info is at willsfamilychiropractic.com and his name is Jason Wills. Good Luck!
