I am looking for a new deoderant. I have tried many and have not found the one that works perfect. The issue I have with previous deoderants and the one I am using now is that when I sweat the deoderant/or my sweat leaves an odor on my shirts in the arm pit area for the day and then when i wash my shirt I can not get the smell out. The smell is a sweat odor. I hope to find out from all of you wonderful mama's what deoderant you find to work well and would prefer no aluminum deoderant. I have tried secret, secret clinical, tom's, degree, etc. Any advice would be appreciated. Recenlty I heard about Adidas...anyone find this to be a good one?

What can I do next?

The kind in health food stores that is clear and solid - hard like a rock. You need to dampen it to use it. I works for me and I also had to do some searching to find something that worked.

I've actually done too much research on deodorants because I was having the same issues...and I'm not sure if hormones or what were causing the excess sweating, but now it's under control. But here's what I've found...

Clinical strength deodorants are a rip off. They have, usually, 20% aluminum zinc whatever (can't remember the technical name, and I don't feel like getting up and grabbing my deodorant.) Most other deodorants...Secret, etc...have between 18 and 19%. I've found that that 1 extra percent really doesn't make a difference.

Adidas...I bought some, because my daughter wanted to use deodorant like me (she was three) and it didn't have aluminum in it, and I'd just heard all this about a possible link between that and breast cancer. If she wants to use some (rarely...now she's six) I let her use that. Otherwise, that was a waste...didn't work at all, for anything.

Someone mentioned Ban...it's really bright neon green...and I do love it. It works. Secret works for me, too, but I think Ban works better. It is harder to find, though...check the bottom or top shelves.

I've actually found that since I quit drinking caffeine (nursing) I don't sweat profusely...or hardly at all...and pretty much any deodorant works.

Or if nothing else works, you can try what my husband does. He doesn't like deodorant, and doesn't use it. Instead, he puts a "deodorant soap" (Irish Spring, for example) under his arms when taking a shower and then doesn't really rinse it all off. We had arguments about this...me saying that's not what they mean by "deodorant" soap...but you know what? It totally works. The man sweats, but not under the arms, and he never smells. Weird, huh.

I only use antiperspirants for myself. I'm pretty sure Secret and Secret Clinical Strength have aluminum in them... Any antiperspirant does.

I find that Mitchum for women works pretty well. I think that comes in deoderant only and deoderant w/antiperspirant.

Yep, that Crystal deodorant works well, the one the person mentioned before me - it is like a hard rock, smooth, in a purple container, last I saw. You wet it and rub it under your arms and can even use it on your soles of your feet. It is a mineral, and works by killing the bacteria in those areas so you won't have a smell, rather than masking the smell with another smell.

I have to warn you, there will be an adjustment period while you exfoliate and get rid of the other layers of deorodant that build up on your skin....a few days to a week, and as you add a daily coat of this mineral to clean armpits, it will keep the bacteria at bay and you will sweat, but it will not smell. It is NOT an antipersperant, just a deodorant. It is not our sweat itself that stinks, but the bacteria living on our skin reacting with it that makes the smell - plain rubbing alcohol dapbed underarms with a cotton ball will help with that issue too.

Also, the stains and lingering smells in the shirts could have to do with the shirts, as well. Although I usually don't have this problem, I have a couple of shirts in particular that are prone to this issue, and they are all polyester/non-natual fiber ones - it is like the plasticy fiber absorbs the odors into its actual make up, rather than them just sitting on top of the fabric - and then the detergent can't penetrate to get them out. I have never had it happen with cotton tops. Maybe try wearing all natural fibers and see if it makes a difference?

Try the Clinical ones. I started having this issue last summer and I felt like I stank all the time. My husband saw the clinical kind and bought it for me as he was tired of me complaining. He bought the Degree brand, it worked but I didnt like the smells, I then bought the Dove brand and love it. The directions say to put on at night, but I use it in the mornings like regular deoderant ans love it.
Its a little more expensive but worth it.

I use Ban, it's in a green package, usually on the bottom shelf. Years ago i believe it was called Ultra Ban, then I didn't see it anymore so tried everything else. Degree is a joke on me, it does absolutely nothing, and Secret keeps me from smelling, but I sweat profusely. I haven't tried any of the "clinicals."

One day about a year ago I glanced down and saw Ban on the bottom shelf at Target, bought it and have been buying it ever since. Compared to the other brands stores seem to carry it in very small quantities, but it keeps me dry, and if I sweat I don't smell bad ; )

I get this stuff from LUSH. It smells like Patchouli. I dont use anything that has aluminum in it. I try and keep it all natural....

I found that once I stopped using the heavy duty deodorants...I stopped stinking. I was not sweating as much as I had before.

I love Dove clinical strength. I sweat and stink a lot - this works for 24 hours w/ no problems. No stains on my shirts anymore either!
