My second son was circumcised the day after he was born at the hospital. I hope that helps.

I was just wondering if you have a baby boy and have them circumcised if you stay in the hospital for a day longer or if you go home like right after it's done? I just can't remember because with my last son I was in the hospital day longer because of med problems and my other son is 3 yrs old and I just can't remember that far back. Thank you. And oh I'm sorry I didn't say that I was asking for my friend that just had a baby boy.
My friend did go home the day of the circ and he's doing great. Thank you for all of the answers because her and I both where wondering about it.

My son had his done and went home that afternoon. His was done in the early morning. There was not any issues with it either. Thansk goodness. I would suggest not being around at the time. My son was in the NICU and I was sitting there when they took him into the little room and I heard everything. It broke my heart but he was ok. Good luck.
I just had a baby in August and made the mistake of going home the night of his circ.....little did I know about "second night syndrome". This is the second night the baby boy is in the hospital which is the night of their circ. They sleep all day after a circ and then are up all night. We brought him home and he was up all night...I was a blubbering idiot the next day...hormone overload and overtired. I stayed both nights with my first, but took an early discharge with my second. It was a big mistake. Do yourself a favor and stay in the hospital and have the nurses take him the night of the circ....you'll all be better for it. Congratulations!!!
I had my son on Wednesday and asked to be home by the weekend. They circumcised my son on Thursday and I was home by Friday Morning. The only reason I was in a day later was that I chose which doctor would be doing the circumcision. I had the choice of two and chose the one who would later become my son's pediatrician. If I hadn't chosen her I could have had it done Wednesday night and been home Thursday Morning.
How long you have to stay after a circumcision depends on the type of procedure the pediatrician uses. There are a couple different methods for circumcising babies - if the pediatrician uses what's called a plastibell, you should be able to leave within an hour after the circumcision. If they use a Gomco for the circ, you will have to stay for 3 hourly checks after the procedure.
This has been my experience as a student nurse on a postpartum floor, just so you know where my information is coming from.
My personal advice is, if you're planning on breastfeeding, ask if you can have the procedure done at an office visit when the baby is a little older and breastfeeding has been established. Getting circed can really knock babies out & interfere with their interest in nursing.
We actually had to go back 3 days after he was born to have it done. It was outpatient, we waited about 20 minutes for the procedure and then we took him home.
My oldest son's circ was done in the doctor's office when he was a week old. No problems. I got to watch the procedure which was interesting, to say the least.
You can take the little guy home as soon as it is over.

I delivered on Tues night and doc did circ Fri morn, then we went home just hours later, no extra time!
I just had a baby boy on Halloween, they circumcised him the next day and we left the day after that. You have to stay for 48hrs after (legally), the circumcision doesn't extend that at all- he even had a day to "recover" before we went home. Hope that helps!
The doctor from my office that was at the hospital when I delivered was going to do it the next day (born Fri morning, was going to do Sat). We ended up doing it on Sunday as she had 10 births the night before and we weren't going home until Monday. When she came in on Sunday, she was going to let us go home that afternoon, after she was done, but my Pediatrician hadn't discharged him and was coming back in the morning to order some jaundice tests and mine was coming in to check my incision (I had a c-section).
They kept him where ever they took him to do it, for about an hour to monitor him and then when they brought him back, they had to check on in again in an hour to make sure it was OK. After that, we probably could have gone home - if everything else had been in order.

The circumcision won't affect the length of your hospital stay. The condition of yourself and your baby will determine that. The procedure is very basic and they just watch it for a couple hours for abnormal bleeding.
All three of my boys are circumcised and did not have to stay in the hospital longer to do so.
I had my son on a Saturday and they circumcised him that same day. I stayed the 48 hours that the insurance allows. It wasn't too bad to have done. Just keep it clean as your doctors says and you will be fine.
Hi My doctor did the circumcision the day after my son was born and we went home right on time.
Nope, you don't have to stay longer. It's pretty easy and doesn't take long at all. The babies usually do really well with it, too. They usually stick a pacifier in their mouth that they have dipped in something sweet (I don't remember what it's called) but it helps them not notice tha pain so much. They will send you home with instruction on how to care for them for the next few days until it heals.
I just had a son last week and they did the circumcision the day we went home. But it may be different in your area. I'd just ask your doctor or the hospital when you get there.
When they did my son's it was the day we left the hospital. They give you vasaline and show you how to take care of it at home, no need to stay in the hospital longer. L.
We went home just hours after my DS was cir. Not my choice, there was a problem with the Dr. schedule that prevented him from getting it sooner, but all went well!
There are no extra stays with procedure they can preform it the same day that you leave the hospital.
I too just had a son. They did the circ. the day we went home.
No extra stay... Cut, clean, continue as usual.
My son was circumcised and was in the hospital the stanard 48 hours. The one thing that no one told me with my first but did tell me with my second was that your son will typically sleep for 24 hours afterwards. With my first it scared me that he wasn't eating. If someone had told me to just expect him to sleep it would have made all the difference.
Hi we didn't have to stay any extra time. my son was born on a wed night and they released us friday but they did his circumcision in the morning friday and we just had to wait a few hours and make sure everything was okay but we didn't have to stay over or another day because of it. so most likely you'll just have an extra couple of hours so they can keep an eye on him.
I had my son on a Friday afternoon, he was circumcised Saturday mid-morning and we went home Sunday morning.
Your insurance only covers you for so many hours, so check with them. When I was under military insurance they waited for my oldest to pee. The next two were under different insurances I left afterwards and was just told what to watch for. No problems.
I had my son circumcised and it did not prolong our hospital stay at all. He was born Monday morning, they did it Tuesday morning and we went home Wednesday morning. That was how long our hospital stay would have been whether we had him circumcised or not. Now, what I was told though was that some insurance will no longer pay for a circumcision because they don't consider it medically necessary- we didn't have this problem, but, it was the first I'd heard of it.
