I was thinking of painting one wall of my daughter's play room with chalkboard paint. Just wondering if anyone has put it in their house and if they like it.

What can I do next?

I tried the something similar to what Kim did (use magnetic paint as a base coat) & what Heather suggested (dry erase paint). Mine was a flop, by the time I put enough coats of dry erase paint on, the magnetic paint didn't work anymore. The magnetic paint was expensive and very weak to start with. The dry erase paint never completely erased, color got trapped in the dimples left by the roller. So I tried using a foam roller and it was a little better but still never completely erased. We ended up using bath tub crayons on it because a damp paper towel took all the color off. We also tried to use the dry erase board they sell at the hardware store with similar results. I think it is a great idea, but suggest asking some of the moms that have had success what brands they used. I used stuff from Michaels craft store (sorry I can't remember the brand).

I have it in my daycare room and it's awesome - you have to do about 8 coats, but it is wonderful. I've had it for at least 7 yrs now

We have a section in our playroom we did this with. After painting it we framed it with wood moulding. It looks so cute and the kids love it!

We have a wall in our basement. It took 3 coats to get a good coverage but totally worth it. To cut down on dust, we use a wet cloth to clean the wall instead of a dry eraser or duster.

We used both the spray on kind and the paint on kind of chalkboard paint for a giant chalkboard in the backyard. I would recommend the paint on kind over the spray. It covers better and is much healthier for the earth and your nose!

We are planning on doing something like this in the basement playroom, but I found dry erase paint. It turns your wall into a dry erase board instead of a chalkboard. I want to do it this way to avoid the chalk dust. Just a suggestion.

We painted our back door by the kitchen in that chalkboard paint and leave a bucket of chalk next to it. My daughter uses it daily and it's a big hit with every kid and adult that comes over. I also use the high parts she can't reach to jot down stuff we have to remember to get from the store. I recommend you take a big piece of sidewalk chalk and drag it over the whole surface before the first time you use it to reduce "ghost" marks. And we've found that a soft dry sponge works best for erasing. Have fun.

I thought about it, but want to wait until my daughter is old enough to distinguish between the part of the wall she can draw, and the part she can't. Just something to think about, I don't know how old your daughter is.

I have a friend who painted a section of a wall and then put trim around it so it looks framed. It looks great and is the focal point of their room. And it's help up perfect!

We just finished our basement and did a section and framed it. We put the magnetic paint on first and then the chalkboard paint so he can use magnets on it too. We had it tinted at Menard's to a dark red color to match the room. If you want to see a picture, feel free to send me your email and I'll send one. It took a few coats, but it's fun for my son.

I have used it before and loved it. I have also used a chalkboard contact paper, which didn't work as well as the paint. I plan on doing my daughters closet doors pretty soon. =)

We painted my daughter's door with this recently and it worked great and went on well (we also did 3 coats after the primer). I used both black and brown and both were fine. It does create a line of dust at the bottom of her door, which is a bit of a pain, but like the previous person suggested, just use a wet towel to clean up the dust and you're fine. It's holding up great!
