Chalkboard Paint & Magnetic Paint

Has anyone used chalkboard paint and/or magnetic paint? Were you happy with it? Did it work? How easy was it to apply?

I was also thinking about painting with magnetic paint and then going over it with chalkboard for a magnetic chalkboard (this is for the central command center at the house to keep us all organized). Is this a crazy idea? Has anyone tried a combination of both before and did it work?

I figured I could ask the guy at Home Depot, but is he REALLY going to know? My husband works there and says he doubts it, so I thought some handy M.'s might know!

What can I do next?

What might be easier is to take a peice of sheet metal and paint it with the chalkboard paint (outside for easier application without the plastic sheet). Then frame it and hang it on the wall.

Good luck and have fun with it.

I just used the magnetic paint on one wall and my daughter loves it. In the past I used the chalkboard and it worked great. I have never done both together. If you do it, do the magnetic first then go over it with the chalkboard. Test it on a small piece of wood, but I don't see why it wouldn't work.

We painted a 2x3 section of our playroom wall with the magnetic paint. 4 cans of paint later we ended up buying this from Ikea and hanging it over the magnetic paint wall.

The magnetic paint did not work at all for us.

I don't know about the magnetic over chalkboard paint, but they have chalkboard paint that is tintable to a bunch of different colors. We used it outside on our playground and it has worked well. We got it at Lowe's, but I'm sure HD has it too.
