I don't have the Mirena, but I do have an IUD. I love it and love not having to think about BC. I had heavier periods for a couple months after having it put it, but have had no problems with it. I would recommend it also.

I got the Mirena after my second child. I had trouble with spotting/bleeding off and on for about 4 months before I had my midwife take it out. That is one of the more rare side effects. The other major side effect is that it can affect milk supply if you are nursing. It sounds like a great method, I just wish it would have worked for me.

By the way, I had the same problem with DepoProvera.

I had Mirena inserted 4 years ago after my daughter was born 11 1/2 months after my son. I love it. It has been wonderful. I had irregular periods for the first couple of months but now I either don't get a period or I just spot. It is a safe BC for nursing moms as well. What sold me on Mirena was that my Dr. delivered right before I did and said that she was choosing it for her birth control and so were the other female Dr.'s she knew.

I literally just got the Mirena 2 hours ago. It was easy (small cramp when inserted) and is no maintenance for 5 years. I am so happy that I don't have to worry about BC for a long time! I have 3 kids 6, 3 and newborn and this is a nice long term solution until we decide if we want any more babies!

M.,
I have the Mirena inserted after my third child. (2 1/2 yrs ago) I absolutely love it. I did stop getting my period after about 6 months. I have been on the pill, the patch and with the Mirena you dont have to remember to insert anything or take anything daily. Highly recommend. Feel free to email any questions.
