My son is turning 5 soon and I think I am ready to introduce him to the Wii. What are the best games for a boy that age? Which ones are fun for me to play along with him? He loves all sports but I think he'll like pretty much anything fun!

What can I do next?

My son turned 4 in March and his older teenage cousin gave him a hand me down Ninetendo DS, and we have a Wii at home. My son LOVES anything Mario - (dance party, mariocart, mario brothers (old school, like I had growing up but better), he even got a stuffed "mario" character from the Easter bunny. He also loves Batman Lego. The mario and lego games are nice because they are not too violent or scary for the younger kids. We also have a Toy Story game that he plays occasionally and a Spongebob game that he plays now and again -- by far Mario Brothers and Mario Cart and the most used, closely followed by Batman Lego.

Avoid Pokemon games and other strategy type games - they require a lot of reading which the younger kids cannot keep up with.

My son enjoys Toy Story Mania, Cars (Mater Game), Mario Kart, Just Dance Kids, some of the Legos games like Pirates/Batman etc. You just have to find out his strengths and play on them - My son also enjoys Reader Rabbit, Cookie Monster/Elmo games but is getting too old for the Seseme Street ones.

Our 3 year old nephew, He is so smart. Loves Super Mario brothers. He runs into our house everytime and says Nanny, lets play Mario... He tells his mom, can we go to paran and nanny's. she says why? so i can play mario with nanny. I started playing with him, about 7 months ago and he still loves it.. He is really good at it. Just took him a couple of times to learn how to hold the controller sideway...lol... now he plays by himself and can pick his world he wants and so forth... He will be 4 in a couple of weeks. But he really loves that game... I do too...lol..

My son loves Scooby Doo. It was really cheap, about 19$. I can't remember what the actual name of the game is but, I found it on Amazon. The other games he enjoys are the sports games that came with the WII (golf, bowling, baseball, tennis & boxing).

We bought the Wii when my son was about 5. We bought the unit with the Wii Sports disc. This is the one that has Baseball, Tennis, Bowling and Golf. It's a good one to get used to using the Wii remote. We all created our own Mii's that we use for all the games and we have family Bowling or Golf tournaments all the time - Grandparents play too! (My son liked the Tennis so much he asked for lessons.) I also really like the Wii Play disc. You can play that as a family too. It has about 6 or so different games. Kirby is a good one for a 5 year old. So is Toy Story Mania, Cars and Sponge Bob. Mario Kart is fun but it takes a little time getting used to driving the cars (you also have the option of buying a steering wheel). I remember that my son was a little frustrated at first but then he finally got it. Wii Sports Resort and Go Vacation are fun games to get later once your son is used to playing the more basic games. I wouldn't get Skylanders as your first game - it is a little more complicated and expensive and you have to buy the characters in order to play the game - I think it's better for kids who are a few years older. I do recommend getting at least 2 Wii remotes and a remote charger so you can use rechargeable batteries. You can also get games for yourself - I bought myself Beatles Rock band and Guitar Hero and I play all the time. I bought my husband Madden NFL and my son took over the game and beats all of us. Hope this helps. You'll love the games more than your son!
