My 3 year old daughter is getting to the point where she wants me to always be around. If I walk into a room that she is not in she becomes attached to my feet. I can't even go to the restroom with out her coming with me. How can I get a break?

What can I do next?

wow sounds like you have a busy schedule. maybe she's getting attached to you because she doesnt get to see you as much? I guess just make sure you give her a lot of attention when you can and let her know you love her and sometimes people need space?

It sounds like you work a lot and she probablly misses you. I would suggest you cut back on your hours or drop the second job to give her what she really needs..........you.

You said you work two jobs? That might be part of it. She is probably going through a little emotional faze because she misses you while you are working. I am a stay at home mom and my 2 year old hates being alone so it may just be her personality changing a bit.

Hello M.,

I think a lot of this has to do with the single parent thing. I'm one too and I know when I get home Christina has to be with me and have only me do things for her. It's somewhat like separation anxiety.

The only thing that I can tell you to try is to focus her on an activity before heading to another room. Tell her that you are going to do something and be right back. Sometimes if they are reassured that you are coming back in a few moments, the fear is abated. As for the activity, you start her out, then when she's engrossed in it, you quietly get up and walk out. The trick is to try and be back before she finishes :)

Hope this helps a little.

T.

I went through the same thing with my son and am going through it with my daughter now. It's a phase. There's not much you can do other than avert her attention. Give her something to do. It it doesn't work I don't know what to tell you other than she'll stop doing it soon.

She probably does just want to spend time with u but if u want atleast a few minutes...find her something to play with before u do what u need to do and let her know that if she lets u get done with what ur doing you'll come play with her. My son is big on video games (hes 3 also) so I just let him play a game and when hes bored he cuts everything off and come back to me. Just give her somethig that will occupy her for a little bit.Normally it only last about 30 mins but for me thats good enough.
