First of all i have been trying to not have to go this route but it's just getting harder and harder financially that is.
I was breastfeeding but unfortunately i really didnt have much of a supply and had to use formula to supplement what he wasnt getting with the bm.
He can go through a can in 6-7 days and its 26 bucks.
They dont carry the generic form of the ar he uses ( because of his reflux).
Anyways can anyone tell me what are the steps i need to take to see if i qualify for Wic? How does it work? and Where is the office at? I live around Provena Mercy Center. Do i need to get there at a certain time and do i need to take any papers?
All i really need is help with his milk thats it, i'm hoping they can help me.
Thanks ladies.....

When you call, find out if they provide the kind of formula he's using, because some kinds require a prescription. I went thru this with my grandbaby when I first got it for her. In her case, the doctor was fine with switching to the kind they provide, but because it takes so long to get WIC going, it would be a shame to wait a month to get in, just to find out you'd need to come back iwth the prescription.

The WIC program is through Visiting Nurses Association in Aurora. They have a new office, I believe on Highland. You will need to check that. The number use to be ###-###-####, but I am not sure if that changed when they moved. I use to work for them prior to their move.
WIC is based on a number of things ranging from financial to nutritional need. Their income guideline are a little more leanient than say Public Aid requirements- meaning just because you don't qualify for public assistance, doesn't mean you won't qualify for it.
Formula is not the only thing they provide. You get food voucher for many things such as milk, cheese, cereal and other protein items.
When you call to make the appointment, they should tell you what documentation to bring. Take advantage of the program, I did- it helped alot.

Look up your local county health department and call them for the number. There are financial guidelines that you will have to meet, and unfortunately, the "waiting time" is fairly long (over a month) to get an appointment, usually. Here is a link to the financial guidelines: http://www.fns.usda.gov/wic/howtoapply/incomeguidelines07... which is at least a place to start. Oh...if you click on the "how to apply" link at the top of that page it takes you to another site that has links to the numbers. Good luck!

So sorry to hear of your struggles. If you're not too far off from your nursing, please consider re-lactating! I have a weekly breastfeeding support group that meets mondays at 10:30 in Naperville at Wheatland Salem Church (not a religious meeting, just breastfeeding moms). A Naperville lactation consultant, Janet (www.lactinv.com) comes almost every week. She has gotten moms to lactate again after stopping and can potentially get your baby back on the breast again too. It would help yr baby's reflux, too. We've had lots of moms w/ babies w/ reflux in the grp.
The meetings are at 95th/Book -- the church is on the southeast corner. Go to the east side of the building to Entrance 3 and we're just inside, room 125. Email me offlist if you want more info! Very Best wishes to you....

I believe the office is downtown....but im starting to think that they moved it on Highland. All you have to do is call the VNA Visting Nurses Association...They will give you all the details you need. Also when you have them on the phone make sure you can get the formula you need...When my son was born almost 9 years ago I had to go that route as well....It is hard. But I remember when I was on it...years ago, you could only get certain kinds of formula, so really make sure you can get what you need for him...Good Luck

WIC is under the Illinois Department of Human Services. You need to make an appointment at the office site before going. You need proof of address and proof of income. DHS helpline is 800-843-6154
I went with a friend and they were prompt and easy to talk to (Lombard office). God Bless

I was on WIC last year. The place you go is VNA of Fox Valley on Highland in Aurora. Here is their website http://www.vnafoxvalley.com/locations.htm - if you a married, your income can not exceed $30,000 combined. If you are not married, I think it's $19,000.

Their phone number is ###-###-####. Be sure to tell them the kind of formula your son is on...they may require you to get a prescription from your doctor for it. Good luck!

There are a few WIC places in the area. If you go online to the DHS website, you can find where they are at. I m not sure if there are any in Aurora, even though I m sure there is prob one close to there, but there is one in Lombard, about 25 minutes away which is the one I applied to when I had my daughter. I am originally from the city myself and it took me a while to find places out here. It's a good program. Good luck!
