Anti-perspirant for 10-Year-old Daughter

My daughter is ten, and she is having problems with sweating. Not stinky, fortunately, just sweating. We've tried several different anti-perspirants (Dry Idea, Tom's, Suave), but nothing is working. I used to have this problem and Dry Idea worked for me, but it's not working for her. I figure we will have to just try different brands, but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas. I used Certain Dri for a while, and it was wonderful, but I'm worried about it's 12 percent aluminum chloride content. Their website claims it's safe for teens, but I've had people say it's been linked to breast cancer. Thank you, J..

You can try plain baking soda. I put it in a bottle with a shaker top (like for spices) so it's easier to get just a bit at a time. This doesn't stop the sweating, but does absorb the moisture. It won't last all day, so she might need to re-apply at school. Good for you for being aware of the risks of aluminum in antiperspirants.

Good luck,

When my 14 yr old started using these products we went through several to find one she likes. She ended up with the Dove sensitive skin one that is her preference.

During this process, I purchased several different types of anti-perspirants (some from the trial sized bins) to find what she liked.

I've always used men's mitchem gel and it works great for me but she did not like that one, (probably because it is like mom's, lol)

I use Secret Platinum, and on really hot days or if I know I'm going to be sweating a lot, I use Secret Clinical. It says to use the Clinical at night, but I use it like a regular deodorant. I have also used men's unscented deodorant.

Good luck on your search!

Just keep in mind that sweating is one of the ways the body gets rid of toxins, so at home, maybe just let her sweat it out!

I actually don't use deodorant/antiperspirant very much anymore. I make up a small bit of mixture that I treat my underarms with - I usually shower every day - and no one (not even my very blunt 17 yr old daughter) has commented on any smell (body odor).

Anyway, the mixture is witch hazel plus a tiny amount of epsom salts. Sometimes I put a drop of tea tree oil or lavender oil in it. I tear a cotton ball in half, wet it, and apply it to my underarms.

It isn't really anything designed to take care of the sweating, but it does a nice job on controlling the day's odor! I'm at an age where I don't sweat as much anymore. Or maybe it's just that I'm home a lot?

I know this isn't really what you asked for - oh well!

Again, good luck!
