Can anybody help me....my 1 1/2 got an itchy rash about 3 months ago around his armpit area..took him to ped & told me it was an allergic reaction to something gave him benadryl and hydrocortizone and recently came back again...the creams arent doing much to relieve his itching...what can I do to help him? PLEASE HELP!!
To those of you whom have responded THANK YOU SO MUCH :O)..Now I also wanted to add that we did switch detergents and I have been washing his clothes in baby detergent(dreft) and that rash still came back...so now i'm thinking it's not the detergent...it's not a food allergy either because he hasn't tried anything new....and I really don't think it's excema...I looked for pics online and the rash doesn't look like that either...he has patches of red (rash) around his armpits and itches...i went to buy the aquaphor and i'll let you know how that works...I just forgot to get the corn starch to use as a barrier...anything else that will work as a barrier?

My little girl had an itchy rash underneath both armpits. My pediatrician suggested switching soaps to Dove Sensitive. It has no harsh cleansers or perfumes. We haven't had a rash since.

I've recently read that most itchy rashes are actually fungal-related. Since then I've had some experience with it and found it to be true in regards to me and my kids. The heat of the summer cna make it worse. My friend's son had something similar but in the crooks of his elbows. Put on a pea sized amount of Tinactin (anti-fungal cream. Safe to use on toddlers his age) on his arm pits 2 times a day--the rest of the time keep a cream called Aquaphore on him at all times. It's extrememly healing. Also--coconut oil has anti-fungal and healing qualities if you wanted to try that as well/or instead of :) Get the purest kind you can find. Expeller pressed.

Have you tried a "free" laundry detergent? ANd body wash?
It is most likely an allergic reaction to laundry detergent. I know that my own kids would get the same thing and it would stop when I changed detergents. Sometimes you might have to try several brands to find one that doesn't cause the rash. The ones that were the worst were those that use enzymes to remove stains. The worst one for causing the rash was Tide; that was too bad because it is such a great laundry product otherwise.

If it is on both armpits, it MAY be excema...my daughter had it in a mild form. We changed our detergent from Tide to All free and clear and it is gone. Also, don't use any scented lotions or soaps. Hope this helps!
I've found oatmeal baths to help soothe itch. Also, you can lightly dust his armpits in cornstarch in the morning to help keep them dry - that should help cut down on the itching too! Good luck, poor baby!
try aquaphor you can buy it at walmart its in the health and beauty section its a little pricey but well worth it my doctor told me to use it on my now 2 1/2 year old because she gets and red itchy rash kinda like ezema so i put it on and rub it in good a little goes along way then i put cornstarch baby powder on it to create a barrier
My pediatrician prescribed Xyzal for my daughter who had hives for 10 days. It took care of them within a few hours. It's a syrup. If you ask your doctor for a sample, it may save you some money in case you find that it doesn't work and don't end up with a lot of medicine you won't be using
