30Th Party Ideas *Stomped*

So my husband and i have an event planning/decorating business. Being in business for 2 yrs, we've touched a minimum of 400 events, either by providing centerpieces, face painting, large props. etc. So now that we are finally doing a personal event, my 30th bday, i am finding it hard to find a unique theme idea. Since this is our first event, for ourselves or children, we feel the need to make it extra special as we have always put forth so much effort to make our paid events 'above the mundane'. my husband has become the go to guy in the area for custom pieces and we work with many vendors so its alot pressure not to 'copy' someone elses ideas whom we have worked with.

I have found a nice venue, a jazz restaurant, that has a color scheme of the golds, and bronze, browns, and cremes. I will be having an upscale type, cocktail hr feel about it. So my question is, do you have any ideas on a theme that would be unique. I dont want to do a theme that i have already done for someone else. But that is al that comes to mind.

thanks in advance

What can I do next?

godesses. Hire models to be body painted and dressed as all the most famous-either Greek or Roman. I would design the invite somehow around you as a 'goddess'-something like you have a little of each in you. The anicent look of this can tie in nicely with your restaurant colors. Your husband can make lifesize coutouts/statues. You could even make it a modern 'toga' party :-)

I am in the business and have done high-end corporate parties, and I felt the same way when I planned my parents 50th anniversary.

I relied on an upscale invites amazing venue, top -notch food amazing flowers and lighting and great linens and table settings. No theme. I think it helps to have more than one music option (our venue was large so we could have more than one band). I basically used all my favorite vendors.

You might want to set up a great photo op area, where you could get creative with the backdrop and guests could pose for pictures. Or if you do not like the furniture in the restaurant, bring in furniture with more character.

I also commissioned an artist to paint the event(the 50th) as it happened. What I really wanted was a participatory painting where all the guests were invited by an attending artist to paint on a canvas, the artist later unifies all the strokes made by guests to make a cohesive painting, but I could not find that artist. I also wanted to do fireworks, but didn't. In the end, I was happy with what we did, but I guess I just wanted to go "old school" since, as you surely know, everything has been done already!

I don't think adult parties need a theme, but maybe because I am jaded after decades in the event industry. Do what you love, it's for your birthday. I think everyone below had good ideas. You could do a Cotton Club theme Hope it is not too stressful!!!

I agree with the other responses- I would do a roaring twenties. With your venue it could be a Chicago speak easy type setting. I would love an excuse to wear a flapper costume. I also wouldnt mind seeing the other half dressed as a gangster.
Years ago I went to a basement jazz club in Chicago and loved how low-key and laid back it was. Lots of comfy chairs and booths and candles lit everywhere.
Attending a party like that would be a fatastic after dealing with mommy stuff all day.
Im sure you could do Mardi Gras with those colors, but youve probably dont that a million times over.

I like the idea one poster said about a Greek party complete w/gold painted "Gods".

Or you could a castle theme.

How about an opulent, fancy elaborate cocktail party. Use the color scheme (which sounds gorgeous) of the room then add an accent color like a rich pink. Only use that as highlights. Fancy hors d'euvres, rent or buy some candle chandeliers (you hang the on standing wrough iron hooks). You have even hire some local college students to pass the hors d'oeuvres. Choose one specialty drink to offer like a chapagne cocktail with sugar and bitters. Decorate the room with white lights & swags of coordinating silk fabric. Add silver lanterns with votive candles around the room. You can have a candy bar for the kids featuring beautiful jars of diff types of candy (jelly beans, m&m's etc) w/little scoops & mini clear bags w/gold ties. Lollipop stand. You can add an ice cream sundae bar for the kids, too. Chocolate fountain. Add a few rented loveseats w/a rug for a lounging area. Give away a small box of something like a wine stopper.

just wanted to say, find a quiet place to just relax and be alone and just meditate about it. I bet one little thing will jump into your mind and you'll be off and running. even if that little thing is just a drink you know you want to serve. it doesn't have to be a huge theme, just one little awesome quirky thing that sums up you.

have fun!!!
