I see it is in with smiley central (they have the cute smile faces) and if you download the programs for this stuff it will also put adware/spyware on your computer that will result in tons of pop ups over time.

I was wondering if anyone out there has heard of the new thing...Zwinky? I can't seem to find alot about it, but what I have found is that it's pretty much a place to chat with anyone..is that right? I have a soon to be step-daughter that just turned 10 and she wants to be on there. I don't think that she is at the age for this. Can anyone give me any information about this site? Thanks so much!
Thanks to everyone that helped to explain this site to me. I have looked at it a little more and talked with my cousin who has girls the same age and we agree that this isn't a site for a 10 yr old. I know that we are going to have to monitor her more closely when it comes to computer time. I did a history check and she has been visiting sites we don't want her too.

I asked my 16 year old about it and he said yes there is a chat but the better part for a 10 year old especially a girl is making your person, changing the clothes etc. It's more about creating your person than chatting. You can pick a pet, etc. He said you can add friends though, but there are probably options to set your site to private. Check it out with her and see what you think. You might even create your own zwinky! I remember helping my nephew who's 9 make one, but I don't remember the chat options or anything. You have to download the program so I just removed it when we were done playing with it.
Allows you to create and modify avatar characters, and use them in a social networking environment.
I've heard of zwinky and even set up a profile to "see what it was about." I found it difficult to enter some of the "chat" rooms where you can play games and meet people. Some of the language used by the other users was a little much for a 10 year old. You had to interact with the zwinky world to earn points to "unlock" different outfits for your created character. You would have to stay online for quite some time to earn enough points to acquire any new outfits.
My rule of thumb for allowing my 9 year old daughter on the Internet is for me to be right there with her. There are too many predators and chatting online is the fastest way for them to find your child. Thankfully, my daughter doesn't seem all that interested in making online friends and we don't feel it's necessary for her to do so.
