So I work at a Union job and one of my shifts is working 7-12 and the other 11-3 with the Christmas party being from 11-12. Now my moring shift is saying that it isn't fair that they have to work 5 hours and the others only have to work 4. Seriously!

Is it wrong I just wanna tell people to grow up life isn't always fair? Yes, I needed my one shift here an hour longer due to the party. Why can't some people just be happy that they have a job! O and after today all my employees are off until Jan 3rd. Why can't they be greatful about that as well. There is no "no thank you's" in this work place any more.

Sorry just needed to vent before I got myself into trouble with the union.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Everyone is included for the party this is why my shifts overlap from 11-12.

People can be so petty! I would be ecstatic if I got the entire week after xmas off! I would work a full day to get that!

Everywhere I have worked the Christmas party has been able to be attended by everyone....so I don't get this, I guess.
It kind of does seem unfair that some would not be included.
At my husband's place of employment, they'd serve lunches twice (and have done this) to make sure everyone felt appreciated.
Without knowing the job, job function, or your position or control over the plan...hard to comment.

I have the same thing at my job. We have start times ranging from 6am-8am but we all got to leave at 1:30 for our luncheon..so, we had people complaining that some had to work more hours that day than others, instead of still being greatful that they get to leave early.

Don't ya just love unions! I have to deal with union issues all of the time and it's mind-numbing. I will go into a school with abysmal teaching practices and the union reps will try to argue with me about what needs to be done. Really? How about you get your folks to do their job which is to teach children and then come talk to me about what's "fair". It's not fair that these kids are doing worksheets all day either!

Oh well, go and enjoy yourself. This is why your supervisors make the "big bucks"-so we can deal with the bull.

Venting is good...some people simply live for the drama in life...maybe next year you could have two 'smaller' parties & EVERYONE could work 4.5hrs....other than closing the doors or NO party at all...they, as well as you just have to deal with what it is...drama for them, frustration over the drama for you...Merry Christmas! Enjoy your family, your health and the everyday happiness that life brings, just that smile on your face each day will give them something to either smile themselves at or add to their drama as they complain about how much better some people have to be able to smile all the time!!!!!!!!!! ;p

Yeah, that's annoying. I remember at my job, a few years back we all had to come in for 4 hours on a Saturday, for a special event. This was a ONE TIME deal that had never happened before or since. And, we even got to take 4 hours off whenever we wanted that week to make up for the time on Saturday. But you should have heard the whining. It was ridiculous!

Merry Christmas!

Why can't people just drink and party at work? I can certainly do both! Although I'm just not in the mood this year.

Union has absolutely nothing to do with this so why are you even mentioning it. The bottom line is your discriminating against one group, the first group gets paid to attend the party and the second group doesn't. To me it's simple 7 to 11:30 and 10:30 to 3 - party is 10:30 to 11:30.

Petty on their party. Enjoy yourself. It is up to your company to handle the grumblers.
