Has anyone been to the Wisconsin Dells area? We are thinking of vacationing there. Wondering what things we must see or do, and what things we shouldn't. Also, any great places to eat and stay? Or where not to eat or stay. My boys are 14 months and 4 years old. Thanks!

What can I do next?

Kalahari all the way! It is SO HUGE! They have an indoor water park (biggest in the US I believe I read), outdoor water park, and a huge indoor arcade/amusement park! You truly would NOT have to leave. And even your 14 month old would enjoy it. They have these jumpers in the water to place young kids in and they can jump and swing in the water! They also have special kids areas with slides and stuff. And their lazy river is HUGE. Plus they have a big wave/(beach like surf) area to just hang out in as well! Check them out online. We've stayed there many times and had a blast! The last time we got the big "suite" that had 3 rooms connected to a kitchen, living room, deck. So we cooked all our own meals. SO GREAT!

(We stayed there before we had kids, when our daughter was like 1 1/2, when our kids were 2 1/2 and 1 month, and a couple more times that I can't remember exactly....... But ALWAYS had a great time at the Kalahari!)

We've also stayed at the Chula Vista. Were NOT impressed. The park was small. The water was FREEZING! Our daughter (1 1/2 at the time) turned BLUE it was sooooo cold! None of us could even enjoy it because the water was so awful. And we didn't pay to have food included so we just brought our own and ate in the room. (Sandwiches, hotdishes to microave, etc.)

If you choose to go out and do something else, go on a duck boat ride! That was fun (but expensive!) We bought a package that included a riverboat? ride as well. That got long and kind of boring.............

Hey J.D.
Be prepared for a very busy area. It's very crowded. You have to stay in line for everything. We went right after the summer vacation time and we had a great time - although lots is closed after Veteran's Day. We liked to stay in one of the large Resorts (Great Wolf's Lodge, Kalahari, Wilderness) as they have indoor and outdoor pools and we could play there in case of bad weather and they are closed to the public in case of too many people.
Enojoy your vacation

I've gone there twice. Both times I'm stayed at the Great Wolf Lodge. We loved it! They had a great waterpark at the hotel. We also did the DUCKS--that was fun.

We honestly couldn't find a decent restaurant anywhere though. Every place is over-priced, and the food is mediocre. Other than that, we had a blast!

Hi, actually I'm from WI spending a day in Wis. Dells was a summer standard for me. I would definitely spend a day or two at Noah's ark! It is the funnest waterpark I've ever been too. I have spent the night recently but I hear a lot of good things about the Kalahari hotel - which also has an indoor waterpark.

Another thing I liked as a child was a Duck boat tour (its a boat that can drive on land and go on the water). It takes you along the river and shows you some of the amazing rock formations - it may be a little much for the 14 mo. old though.

Restaurants, I'm not sure of either besides Paul Bunyon's for breakfast! Delicious!

Have fun!

the dells are a lot of fun!! we camped at an awesome KOA. there are water parks everywhere!! we liked the boat tours. Downtown is very touristy and most stores are expensive. I'm sure you won't be bored there.
Lots of fun things to do there. Have a great vacation!! L.

I have been going to the Dells since I was young. It is a fun place to go as a family. When we were older we went to Noah's Ark but I think for your kids age it may be to much.

With my own child and nephews (similar to your children's ages) we always stay at Wilderness. We only leave for dinner. They have condo rooms with kitchens for breakfast/lunch and so the little one can nap (?) in a private room without worrying about traffic through the room. They have many different waterparks to choose from and a great indoor play room which the kids love after a day of swimming.

It is touristy and there are a couple of nice horse wagon rides to see. Mostly the Dell's that I have experienced is one big waterpark. Fun enough to go back every year.
