Winter Pants and Sizing!

So, I bought my 9 month old daughter a 6-12 month Columbia down bunting suit for this winter. She is already too long for me to use the feet covering. Luckily, my mother also bought her a jacket from LL Bean. In any case, my mother said she would buy her matching pants, but I am torn about what size to get her. While it seems obvious to get her a longer size, my daughter is just long and I don't want her swimming in the thing. The 6-12 month coat is big on her, and it supposedly will 'grow.' The pants too can grow a bit. Typically I only find 'one piece' items to be too small on her, so chances are that the 6-12 pants would fit her fine, and fit her mostly fine till March.

Will her growth start to slow? What size should I get?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all of the responses.

I totally forgot that I have a sack thing from last year I can use. I also carried her in the sling last winter, so maybe for short walks, I can do the same this year.

I used those stroller sacks in the winter. You can stuff a blanket in there with them too. Mine only wore a coat that way. I used a sling too in the winter for dog walking too, and just wrapped another blanket around the whole sling to insulate. could be another solution for you. We walked all winter like that just fine!

My cousin use to work at a children's boutique and always taught me there age plus 3 months is the size to get. So if she's 9mo + 3mo= 12mo and your cutting it close for how long she'll be able to use it.

Their height doesn't start to slow sown, but their weight does because they get to be picky eaters.

Hope this helps!

They grow everyday. Buy big and spend as little as possible. Go resale shopping and use hand me downs.

I feel your pain! My daught is now 3 1/2 and I have had this issue with her as well since she was an infant. She is long and skinny so nothing ever fits her right. My biggest suggestion to you...do NOT buy clothes in advance of the season! I can't tell you how many times I did this and have donated hundreds of dollars worth of clothing! I keep thinking "she will fit in that size by then" and her length will, but then she is swimming in it. We are currently trying to find a size 4 girls in a slim fit, but it is so hard! To sum up: buy for the current season and as she needs it, try a variety of sizes and see what works best for her (be ready to be returning items to the store) and try resale shops - at least you don't feel as guilty if something doesn't fit or she outgrows it too quickly! Good luck from another Mom of a "string Bean". :)

Hello--My mom always told me until they can play in the snow, all the babies need are a coat and hat to go to the car and back. She told me they boil in those one piece snow suits and pants in the car or a store. I always just put a heavy but not to heavy coat on my kids. They were all still able to fit in their infant carriers in the cold so I got one of those covers for the carseat you zip up or down.
Good Luck!!!

Dear J.,

I have 4 daughters the youngest is 5. 2 of the 4 are slims! You don't need to spend a lot of money, a 9mo old is probably going to wear snow pants a handful of times (they go from warm house to warmed up car and it is too hot with the extra layer). You want to buy something that fits now with a little room. At this age even if you buy big for next year she will swim in it now and next year it will be too small. When she gets a little older Lands End carries slim too!

Hi J.,
Every company has a difference in their sizing scale, so a 6-12M in one co. will not always be the same in another. The best thing to do is measure her inseam then measure the inseam of the item.

When my daughter was four I bought size five to make sure she could wear them next winter too. She only wears them to play in the snow and with boots on you couldn't tell the difference. I would just get the bigger sizes and go with that. If she can wear them next year, all the better.

I would do 6-12. It's not as if 12-18 will fit next year so you might as well have it fit really well this year. In all reality, how often is your 9 month old going to be in the snow too?
