Clothing Size 20 Month Old Girl?

I know I shouldn't buy clothes ahead of time, but I want to buy my 15 month old daughter a winter snow suit now, while I can get one dirt cheap. She runs in the 95% for length, and is already at least 31 inches.

The snow pants and coat I want to buy her don't come in 24 months, so I'd have to get a 2T. The 2T is 33-35 inches, 27-29 lb. However, their normal 24 months are 26-29 lbs,31-33 inches, so the only real difference is length, where my daughter has been running far ahead in terms of sizing. She most likely won't be wearing this till November/December, so she has 6 months to grow about 2 inches.

So would I be crazy to buy the 2T for her to wear this winter? She will be 2 in March. I bought her a few 2T dresses that I have no doubt she will be able to wear, but I'm just not sure about the 33-35 inch pants. I have no clue how many inches she will grow between now and Xmas. I read somewhere that you should expect between 1/4-1/2 inch per month. So if she grows slow, she'll be 32.5, but if she grows fast, she'll be well into the length requirements.

Also, bibs or no bibs for a 2 year old in terms of pants?

Thanks everyone! Just need some assurance before spending some money!

I think I will buy the 2T, and the bib pants.

Cheers!

We bought my daughter 2T bibs last winter (when she was wearing 18 mo. clothes), hoping she will be able to wear them again this winter. We tightened the bib-straps all the way this winter, and they worked fine for the few times she used them outside. Hopefully, she will still have several inches to grow into by winter. She is 21 mos. now, and also in the 75-95th percentile range. I think the 2T would be fine. Hope this helps!

Snow pants are usually pretty forgiving, since they have elastic at the bottom. I think it will probably be fine unless you're looking for a perfect fit - the legs can always scrunch up a little. And I personally like the bib style. Good for you for shopping ahead!

I would buy the 2T, with a bib. Even my pretty average sized son, who turned 2 at the end of May (this is a couple years ago now) was getting 2T sized stuff at Christmas time before his 2nd birthday.

Oh - one easy way to check is to look at a growth chart. YOu can download them from the CDC:
http://www.cdc.gov/growthcharts/

Just find which percentile curve she's on and follow it up to where she'll be next winter.

The bib will keep the snow from going into her coat. But don't spend too much on this stuff - she may not be into snow yet. I know my son wasn't too excited about it at that age, much to my disappointment.

I will tell you, there is NO WAY to predict growth patterns. My boys were large (tall and heavy) according to the charts....by 12months of age they were all into a 24mo or more (my middle son wore a size 3T and size 7 shoes) but my daughter grew minimally and was wearing a 12mo and size 1 shoe at a year. By the time my boys were in 2nd grade, they were all in the smaller end of their age groups!

Bibs/no bibs??.....well that is a matter of taste and also whether or not you plan to potty train. Children are not able to take the bibs off as easily as "normal" pants, so, that decision is up to you.

My best suggestion is to plan on larger rather than smaller (children never shrink they just grow at different rates) and then purchase things as you either get a GREAT deal (so much so that if it is NEVER used you won't feel TOO bad) or as needed. Remember, in our climate, your child will most likely wear here winter outerware from Oct thru to April.....so, big in Oct could mean small in April......Good Luck!

It's a guessing and praying game. I'de think of her as growing 4-6 inches in the next 6 months. Better to have the snowsuit too long than too short. You could roll the legs up a bit. Shoe sizes are a poopshoot also. You just have to guess. Drs can measure bone size and give you a baby full grown height as an adult but can't tell you how long it'll take to get there. I have 2 nieces that are 5'9'' in 5th grade. One wears a womens 11 shoe. Their mom is loosing her mind trying to keep them in clothes and shoes.

It is usually not a good idea to buy clothes to far in advance unless you can return them later but in the case of a snowsuit it can be a little big and still be OK. The pants can be shortened. We always bought 2 piece snowsuits, bibs and coat, never bought the one piece suits. I liked the idea that he could just wear the coat when we went to church or special events and not have to bother with the bibs.
Remember pants can be shortened.

My kids were 90%. They were ALWAYS 1 size bigger than thier real age. Better big than small! Bib..YES! You will only need these for playing in snow. You will not want to bundle a 2 year old in those for a car ride! My kids snow pants were worn just a few times and so are most kids. If it does not fit, sell on ebay. You can find great New stuff on there cheap too!
