Where Did You Find Your Sitter

I am a nanny but the family found me thru sitter city. When they don't need me anymore I will be updating my resume and back on there again.

In Oklahoma it is illegal to watch any children in your own home without having a license. Some states have 4 or less, some say even up to 6. If you have a license you can use that agency, they give a list to anyone who applies for child care assistance a list of all the licensed facilities both centers and homes.

I also think taking out a classified, cheap one, and letting it run a few weeks if not longer is a good idea. I did find that once I polled my parents at my center, 99.9% of them were on state funded child care and they did not buy newspapers, they bought food and other necessities not newspapers. Only 2 people saw my ad in the classifieds and they were grandparents of the kids.

It can work very well for you or it can be a waste of money but if it's only a few dollars it can't hurt to try even if just to find out if there is anyone looking and reading the paper to find someone.

We found our sitter on sittercity.com. They also list nannies and some home-daycares, so you could advertize there.

If your area has a mothers' club, those are very impactful. So if you do have one and are comfortable, you could ask the departing families to send an email mentioning you now have openings and they've been very happy etc. Our local clubs have either email distributions and/or posting boards like this one.

Not the one my kids are at now but the one before that I found on craigslist and she was awesome (wish she had not moved). She is now one of my best friends as are the other parents of the kids she had. I know most of my friends who are searching for a home daycare have started their search with craigslist and the state department of family services website( they keep a list of all listed registered and licensed homes and centers in the state and you can search by zip code).
