When to See a Pediatric Dentist

I've heard conflicting information about when it's a good time for a toddler to see a pediatric dentist for the first time. At 2 years old? 3 years old? When can I start brushing his teeth with fluoride toothpaste rather than the toddler (no fluoride) toothpaste? Can anyone recommend a good pediatric dentist in Plano? The referral listings from the website don't have a Plano dentist listed. I need an office/staff that can distract my child's attention with TV sets in the exam rooms, music, etc.

What can I do next?

I am a pediatric RN. We recommend routine dental exams beginning at 3 y/o. OF course earlier if there is any problem or potential problem.
Check with your pediatrician for names of pedi dentist. Ditractions may actually add to his fears- too much stimulation. Just having you explain all that is going on the morning before the exams is usually sufficient.
PLease feel free to e-mail w/ any other questions!

Two-years is what I was told. I live in Plano, too, but had a hard time finding a good pediatric dentist. I can recommend Tamela Gough in Allen. Her staff was wonderful and really put my son at ease. They even had The Rugrats playing on the ceiling of the exam room! Good luck to you!

I started taking my son after he had all his teeth. He will be 3 in October. I am using a toothpaste for kids with some flouride in it, but I assist him in brushing his teeth so he does not overuse toothpaste. I first took him several times to Dr. Haider at Kidz and Teen Dental in Carrollton. They were very caring and worked well with little children. We now use a family dentist, Ramos Family Dentistry located at Frankford/Midway in N. Dallas (Insurance change). So far they have been wonderful as well.

Hi,

I took my son when he was three with a suggestion from his dentist. Check with the dentist that you find. They normally recommend an age.
