Since it is fall how about sliced apples and caramel dip? I saw individual cups of caramel for dipping fruit at the grocery store in the produce section the other day. It is healthier than cake and the kids will get a kick out of it.
ok ... my little one is turning 7 and in her class room there are peanut allergies so i have to watch my selections. my question to all of you is ... what is a good alternative to cake/cupcakes ... i would like to take a snack but i want to change it up a little ... maybe something healthy? season related? fun? i don't know but there has to be something other than cake RIGHT? HELP!!!
ok this is what i have selected ... if you ladies have any additional suggestions let me know this project will not go into the making until thursday afternoon ... candy carmel gala apples drizzled with white and milk chocolate (completed by me and the birthday girl herself) wrapped in cute little birthday wrap, secured with ribbons with also hold a birthday pencil and bubbles ... no peanuts involved and it is a nice change from the cake/cupcake and a fall delight!

You can never go wrong with fresh fruit or veggies. Fruit or vegetable dips are also popular. Try to have a small variety and you'll please (nearly) every kid in class.
Hope this helps. Best of luck to you.
I love the kraft web site. If you look under kids recipes you will find tons of cute holiday treats and your little one can help you make them which makes it all the more fun!

My birthday is next week, one of my favorite treats to bring is doughnuts and apple cider. I was also going to suggest carmel and/or candy apples, but I see you've thought of that already.
If you wanted to do something totally non-edible but fun you could buy a mini pumpkin or gourd for each child (I've seen them as cheap as 3 for $1), and let have them draw or paint the faces on.
Pumpkin Muffins are yummy. They're sweet and when my daughter was in the 1st & 2nd grade they went over very well with her classmates. I would send grapes and cut up oranges in as well for the Halloween party. Kids loved everything.

Have you thought about a fruit tray and Strawbery Cream Cheese fruit dip, I had that a my daughters birthday party in her class when she turned 8.
try to go to kraftfoods.com they have awsome ideas that are fast and easy
Fresh fruit with a cream cheese dip is a heathly choice. Also, many foods in the gluten free area are execellent about no peanuts. Must read all labels. :-)

oatmeal pumpkin cookies. They are delish. Just fo to martha stewart.com she is sure to have a recipe..if not try a google for peanut free snack recipes and those pumpkin cookies.
You can also take applle skins and roll them in jello (whatever flavor you fancy)...kids can help on this one....make sure they are coated good....put them on a parchment lined baking sheet andbake @ 350 for 30-40 minutes....homemade and healthy gummy worms.
I used to do girl scouts, one thing the girls loved is chedder or colbyjack cheese slices, apples slices and regular microwave popcorn. I did this quite by accident one day I forgot to buy a snack and didn't have time to stop at the store prior to a meeting.
Are you me??? My son is turning seven next Friday and he has a fellow student with peanut allergies in his class!! That's wierd. Anyway I too have no idea what to bring and in addition to that they are going on a field trip so it has to be easy to travel with. I got nothing...sorry. I'm going to keep thinking though and if I come up with anything I'll let you know. Kraftfoods.com is GREAT site, I highly recommend it. That's actually where I'm going to go to try to find something. But I bet you'll get some great advise here there are some smart ladies out there!! Good luck.

P.S. does your little girl go to greenwood? you don't have to answer I was just wondering. So many similarities.
Hi M.,
If you're looking for something healthy(ish) and seasonal, maybe sliced apples w/ caramel dip. I don't know if you're familiar w/ family fun, but they always have great seasonal treat ideas(if you don't get the mag. you can go on-line to familyfun.com). Their latest is not healthy, but it is very cute! They took round sugar cookies, glazed them orange and added candy corn eyes, all-bran hair, m&m nose, choc. jimmie mouth, and a hat made from 1 1/2 wafer cookies. I hope I helped. Good Luck. S.
I made this for my daughter's class a couple of years ago, and it was a HUGE success and super easy. I saw Rachel Ray make it on Food Network. It's called candy sushi.
1 tablespoon butter, cut into pieces
12 regular marshmallows
2 cups puffed rice cereal (recommended: Kellogg's Rice Krispies cereal)
4 fruit roll-ups (pressed dried fruit rounds, 8 inches) any brand, any flavor
8 strips licorice candy (recommended: Twizzler's brand), any flavor pieces should be 6 to 7 inches long, trim to match width of roll-ups
Melt butter in a medium saucepan over low heat and add marshmallows. Stir marshmallows until completely melted. Remove mixture from heat and add cereal. Stir to coat cereal evenly in melted marshmallows.
Roll out the fruit roll-ups. Place 1/4 of the coated cereal onto each fruit roll up and spread and gather toward 1 side of roll up. Place 2 licorice twists onto the center of the spread out cereal mix. Wrap and roll the candy and fruit, maneuvering the licorice to the center of the roll, so that the finished product resembles a sushi roll. Repeat with remaining rolls.
Place a sharp knife into a bowl of very warm water. Cut candy sushi with warm knife and arrange on a plate then serve.
Hi M., my name is A., one of my daughter's favorite school treats was when I made her class fruit shish kabobs, the kids think there fun. I did pineapple, watermelon, melons, and strawberries, and if you get this stuff at the city market it is much cheaper and fresher than the grocery produce. But if your in a hurry you can buy a fruit tray and the sticks, throw them together and done!!! Good Luck

!!!!!!! FINGERJELLO !!!!!!!!
You could also do Cinnamon Graham crackers and a colored icing with sprinkles or Rice Cakes with flavored cream cheese and diferent sprinkles. Yogurt tubes, Ice cream bars, Popcicles, In season fruit cut up and throw some cool whip on top?. Individual puding or jello cups? Boxes of animal crackers personalized with stickers? I guess it would depend on whether or not it has to be store bought?
If you are looking for healthy maybe you could serve sliced apples with that carmel dip. Or you could mix cinnamon and sugar together and serve with the apples. My son LOVES when I do that.
One of the websites I use for new recipes is Allrecipes.com. I get some good stuff and some junk, but there is a search option on there so check it out. I have a few books that may help, so I'll let you know if I find anything fun. Good luck.
We once had apple/cinn yogurt and dipped sliced apples. You can use different apples/colors and talk about their differences or where you got them (apple orchard).
It looks very festive and is super easy. Plus the kids loved it. Serve each kid a few different slices to try each kind.
