What to Do with Baby Hangers

Hi Diane! First off, when you buy clothes from now on take them off the hanger before you get to the cashier and leave them at the store...or have them take them off. I sware those little hangers breed! LOL You could call a local second hand store to see if they need any hangers, or your local school's (they could use them for craft projects etc.)art teacher. They might be recycleable, just check for the number inside a triangle, the lower the number the more likely it is that they are recyleable.

I've wondered the same thing. I have found the little recycling symbol on some hangers and I always toss them in the recycling bin. Usually it's in the middle under the hanging on the rail part.

Have you heard of freecycle.org? It's a great website with the goal of keeping things out of landfills. People post things on there and others respond saying they want them. Everything is totally free. There are different chapters - our's is, of course, the Pittsburgh one. You have to sign up - it's free. Check it out! Someone just posted hangers today, in fact!

I know that O'Hara Twp by Fox Chapel is now taking all numbers for plastic recycles. Not sure if other areas are doing the same yet.

most baby hangers (without clips) are "5"s. I live in Edgewood, which only takes 1 and 2s curbside, but Construction Junction takes all plastics 1-5. I just save them with my target bags (4), formula can lids (4), and other food containers that are 5s and run over there every now and again.

They are usually stamped somewhere towards the end, in little type.
