I am looking for some help on what shampoo products work good for my 4 year old daughter's hair. She has fine thin hair that is almost curly. In fact it wasn't until this past half year that we have had much hair to work with (slow growing).
The Johnson and Johnson baby shampoo isn't cutting it anymore.
We tried Dove, but it really didn't help, then we tried Aussie and it seemed ok but now it really isn't working for her hair.
We have not been to a salon yet because she hasn't really needed a hair cut but we may be thinking of that too in the next few months. Just to help us figure out a style for her.
Anyone out there have fine thin hair in your children and what products seemed to work for you?
What great responses. We have tried some of the products listed. Using detangler when brushing her hair seems to help since is it so thin and fine. We have also tried the suave kids but think we will try one of the other brands mentioned since I can not seem to find the shampoo and conditoner seperately.
We will also take her in for her first hair cut. I am a little nervous about that since her hair is so thin and fine and not super long, but think it wil help in the styling.

We use Paul Mitchell kids shampoo (Don't cry baby, I think it is called); I get it at Cost Cutters and it is not really expensive. Good luck.

Once a stylist told me that suave is a good, mild shampoo for fine hair. Maybe you could try it with your daughter. It's also very reasonable.
Any that would give added volume would work I would think. My daughter is a stylist and she always has us get Biologe (I think that is how you spell it).
My three year old DD has long fine hair. It's all one length and gets tangled easily. I have found the Johnson and Johnson no more tangles shampoo and conditioner to work really well. I also keep no more tangles on hand for when it gets really bad.
Hi H.! I have a 5, 3 and a 1 year old and I use Arbonne's hair and body wash from their ABC baby care line. It works great AND it's all botanically based so it's safe for our little ones too! Sometimes the synthetic materials and fillers in other shampoos can weight the hair down or you know how it feels like there is a coating on it? I love that Arbonne's does not do that!

I like more natural products, my daughter uses Burts Bees and we like it a lot. I'd never use suave though.... just my thoughts. good luck
Our family is all blessed with fine hair too. We have a hairstylist in the family so, she started cutting my dtr's hair when she was about 18 months and it helped a ton. She suggested cutting it short (in a bob) for a while to make it grow in thicker - or at least make it where she has more hair. It did help quite a bit even though it was tough hearing some people ask whether she was a girl or boy (my dtr hated wearing barrettes or anything in her hair then). She now has beautiful hair that is down to the middle of her back. It still is fine but it doesn't look "thin." Early on, I used Mustela's products - great for babies but $$$. My SIL bought them for us at a discount. I've used Huggies Grins and Giggles and used that for a long time until my dtr's hair got longer. We needed something with conditioner. I think we use Suave products where it has 2 in 1. They are found in the baby aisles at the grocery store. They also have a detangler spray that I recommend. Other products we've used is from Kids Hair - which is where my SIL works. They do a great job cutting hair and recommending products. They are used to the squirrelly kids or crying ones that hate getting haircuts. Even tho my dtr knew her Auntie quite well - she still hated it (at first). Now, she loves the extra attention from her auntie.
Aveda's Shampure is awesome. I got it as a baby gift - can be used for their skin and hair. And it smells great!
H. - My family uses a product from USANA Health Sciences which is very gentle but does a great job. Best part, it has no preservatives in it. Parabens are a widely used preservative in many health care products. But USANA developed a skin care line that is self-preserving. Parabens are being found in breast cancer tissue.

Paul Mitchell Baby Don't Cry shampoo. It is great! They also have Taming Spray that is good for detangling, flyaways, etc. Be sure to purchase these at a salon and not to buy in a supermarket or dept. store; they are either stolen or tampered with and are not gaurenteed unless bought in a salon. P.S. I use this for all three of my kids 2 boys and girl and it is okay to use as a body wash also! And tear-free!
I was buying expensive shampoos from the salon on both me and my kids hair (both my children have EXTREMELY fine hair - people frequently mistook my daughter for a boy until she was about 2 because her her hair was so slow growing and fine!) until recently. I recently became an independent distributor for Herbalife and switched over to their Everyday Aloe Shampoo and Conditioner and I love it!! I truly didn't think I would switch but I thought it was worth trying and I'm sure glad I did - it's a quarter of the cost of salon brands and I actually like the way everyone's hair is doing even better. I can now put tons of barrettes and bows in my daughter's hair and we have a blast doing it!!
I would never use Suave on my kids. My head actually bleeds when I use it. Freaked me out the first time! I use Aveda's Shampure for my kids as well as for my hubby and I. It keeps thin hair from getting funky buildup and is really gentle on the scalp.

You might try the Projoba Silk and Shine Shampoo Creates fuller Shinner hair. (Projoba Line)
Also my daughter when little had very fine hair and hardly no hair till 14 months old.

Have you thought about conditioner as well? One of my twins has very slow growing fine hair as well (her sister managed to blessed with long, gorgeous flowing locks, which is sometimes more of an issue than the fine hair:) I noticed once I started putting a little conditioner in as well it seemed to make it a little more manageable during the day and holds a little more body than just with shampoo. I can't say one conditioner is better than another, I just use the cheapy brand. (They can pay for salon hair products when they get a job of their own:) I have used the Burt's Bees line before on them and have really liked the results if you are looking for something a little more upscale than suave or white rain...which is what I typically use for our kids.
I also second the recommendation to get her a haircut. I also didn't see the need for a haircut for my daughter when it wasn't that long but gave it a try and trimming the ends and giving it a little shape really did wonders to add volume and shape.

What do you mean that the shampoos aren't working anymore? Is her hair getting too dirty/greasy and not shampooing clean anymore?
cutting it will help thicken it up. even if she doesn't need a cut just something to shape it up and get the ends trimmed will help it to grow. what are you looking for a shampoo to do for her? my 3 kids use just about anything and they all clean their hair well. a shampoo will not help thicken.
I use desitin on my sond hair.
They make kid shampoo/body wash that I really like, my son was born with a full head of hair Suave has a pretty good one or Gerber has a line called Grins and giggles. Or even gop to a Kids Hair they have a line for kids too. there is a Kids Hair in maple grove. Good luck
We have two little girls with the same issue (age 3 and 16 months). We have been using the Suave 2 in 1 brand (have tried everything!!). We use the Fairy Berry Strawberry, but I think they all work well. After bath I ALWAYS use the Johnson and Johnson No More Tangles-I love this product! I also use it in the morning on dry hair! I use Suave for my kids too. They have a line of children's shampoos. I have a 4 year old boy and 1 year old girl. Both have different type of hair and they use the same shampoo and it makes their hairs soft.
When I took my daughter in for a haircut the stylist told me that I should only wash her hair with shampoo once or twice a week because her hair was so dry, or thirsty as she called it. Little kids do not have the same oils as adults do. She also has very fine hair. In between I wash her hair with conditioner only and shampoo/conditioner combo (Suave for kids I believe) when I do use shampoo.
