What My Doc Didn't Tell Me About My Birth Control. I'm Confused.

After being on Loestrin 24 for 3 months and spotting all the time, I asked my doc for a new birth control over the phone. I had told them that I didn't want a b/c like seaonique b/c I wanted a monthly period. So, I was looking online yesterday to see when I was supposed to start my period on this trivora stuff. Come to find out, it's a generic version on Seasonale, and you only have a period on it every 84 days! I shoud have done more look into it before I started it, but since I had told them what I DIDNT want, I assumed that the doc listened.
Here's the deal... I think I might be pregnant! I missed two pills last month on the old b/c and I've been on antibiotics this month with the new stuff. I'm hungry, tired, sore boobies, bloated, and I've gained a few pounds. I'm going to call my doc about changing pills (If I'm not pregnant), but should I quit the pills until I know if I'm pregnant or not? Also, since I'm not supposed to have a period, when can I take a test? If I were on regular pills, I'd be on the 2nd day of the sugar pills at the end of the pack. Thanks ladies. I'm new to the birth control thing. Havn't been on it since I was about 20 and well, that was almost 10 years ago....

What can I do next?

I can't even count how many people I know (myself included) that hove gotten preggo while taking bcp & antibiotics. If you're having strong symptoms from a pregnancy, it will show up on a test. The pill doesn't affect the outcome of a pregnancy test.

Go get a dollar store test and test now. If it's negative, test again in a week. Definitely follow up with your doctor, but if you are pregnant, you might find out on a test now, and then you could pro-actively stop taking the pills...

Best wishes.

yes, stop taking them now if you think you could be pregnant. But also, often changing pills creates these symptoms because each pill has different make up of hormones. I would take a test and /or ask your doc.

If you are having symptoms, a test will show positive if you are pregnant.

I kinda doubt you are pregnant. More likely, your body is getting used to the progestin in your BC pills. Higher levels of progesterone will mimic the symptoms of pregnancy. If you only missed two pills last month it is highly unlikely you ovulated.

As for antibiotics, you should always use another form of BC while taking medications. That would be the only concern.

Definitely do not take anymore pills if you think you're preggers--artificial hormones aren't good for baby's development.

If you're not preggers, then do other b/c this cycle before you start a new pill pack.

I would stop taking the pills, take a test, and if negitave take another 2 weeks later after that you should deffinently know yes or know then start your pills again (follow the rule ya did when you first started them)

Keep your doctors appointment and mention your concerns

stop the pills, take a dollar store test, and make an appointment with your doc for a blood test, even if it is negative. Better to be safe than sorry.

Yes, I agree with Lee to go ahead and test now. If you're having sex I wouldn't stop the BC yet. Even if you are pregnant the hormones shouldn't have a drastic effect this early, but you'll need to find out ASAP. Good luck, I hope it turns out the way you want!
