I know it's early but my family starts asking for my kids' Christmas ideas before Halloween even comes and I always seem to be stumped for ideas. I have a 3 1/2 and a 1 1/2 year old boy. Are there any must have toys you can think of for this age group? Thanks!

The good thing is that at those ages they don't really know to ask for anything. I say, keep it simple. Building sets (Lincoln Logs, Tinker Toys, blocks, etc.). What about some type of joint play equipment for the yard? Bikes? Scooters? Something that will get them moving or thinking or creating.

Thomas the Train. He's 2.5, and keeps seeing the "Tidmouth Sheds" advertised and gets excited. I'm not sure that it will be that particular set, but he'll be getting something TTT. Also, a riding toy, not sure yet on which one, though.

An easel! We got one for my son the Christmas that he had just turned 2. He is almost 4 and still uses it all the time, and his brother (1) is starting to scribble too. There are a bunch of nice ones out there, this is the one we have:

My 22 month old likes everything Elmo. I will not pay $70 for the newest Elmo but it is on the hot toy list this year.

Duplos or mega blocks mini size (the micro sized one are the size for the 5/6 years and up sets.) Thomas is a big deal. Easels are fun. Ours is magnetic and can use dry erase. Definitely get the dry erase markers that specify that they are washable as the others do stain. My 3 year old also loves playdough, fire trucks and construction toys. Maybe a tool bench with tools.
